Bravely Bleeding: What Happens When You Choose Your Trauma
Her left hand felt numb. That happens, right?
But what followed was a harrowing journey through emergency rooms, brain scans, miscommunication, mini-strokes, and what happens after the diagnosis: the grief, the hallucinations, the laughter, the fury, the strength you didn't know you had, and the boundaries you finally learn to build.

Survival is more than making it through—It's becoming someone new on the other side.
Bravely Bleeding is not just a tale of symptoms and scans — it's a story of facing the unknown with intuition, humor, and a stubborn kind of hope. Whether you're a patient, a caregiver, a nurse, or someone standing at the edge of their own unraveling, Kris Corbett shares her truth about what it takes to survive inside your own head.

Healing begins when you stop apologizing for your pain—and start telling your story.
Told through the dual lens of a patient who became a healthcare provider, Bravely Bleeding is a raw, unflinching memoir of surviving emotional trauma only to be challenged by the medical trauma of not one but two brain surgeries and the emotional reckoning that comes with the healing process.

Bravely Bleeding offers a message that is both personal and universal:
You are not alone. You are not broken. And your dreams haven't given up on you.

"Kris was just an average kid from the South Side who never gave up. If she could survive and still find the beauty in life, anyone can. There's nothing spectacular about her—except her heart—and that's why I think this book matters." – James Tretick, author of Game 7: Lightning in a Bottle

About the Author

Kris Corbett's life was forever changed at the age of twenty-two years old when she was diagnosed with a cerebral cavernous angioma brain lesion after a transient ischemic attack. In other words, the brain she had trusted all of her life began to fail her. Facing this medical condition became a battle that lasted almost twenty-five years.

Drawing on her lived experience as both a patient and a health care provider, Corbett brings a rare and deeply human perspective to conversations about trauma, healing, and the power of reclaiming your voice. Her debut memoir, Bravely Bleeding, explores what it means to survive with grace, grit, and a tired grin.

Corbett was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and currently lives in Maryland with her spouse, their four amazing children, and three pugs who run the household. She is a registered nurse, former U.S. federal civil servant, and basketball coach who is passionate about empowering others through storytelling, challenging medical stigma, and reminding people that healing isn’t linear—but it is possible.
