Overview

Their mission: To take out the scuds. Eight went out. Five came back. Their story had been closed in secrecy. Until now. They were British Special Forces, trained to be the best. In January 1991 a squad of eight men went behind the Iraqi lines on a top secret mission. It was called Bravo Two Zero. On command was Sergeant Andy McNab. "They are the true unsung heroes of the war." — Lt. Col. Steven Turner, American F-15E commander. Dropped into "scud alley" carrying 210-pound packs, McNab and his men found themselves surrounded by Saddam's army. Their radios didn't work. The weather turned cold enough to freeze diesel fuel. And they had been spotted. Their only chance at survival was to fight their way to the Syrian border seventy-five miles to the northwest and swim the Euphrates river to freedom. Eight set out. Five came back. "I'll tell you who destroyed the scuds — it was the British SAS. They were fabulous." — John Major, British Prime Minister. This is their story. Filled with no-holds-barred detail about McNab's capture and excruciating torture, it tells of men tested beyond the limits of human endurance... and of the war you didn't see on CNN. Dirty, deadly, and fought outside the rules.

Not only a breathtaking account of the Special Forces raid on Iraqi scuds during the Gulf War, this is also a story of superhuman courage, endurance and dark humor in the face of overwhelming odds. Andy McNab, the most highly decorated soldier in 50 years of the British Special Forces, tells the story of his patrol, which in his commanding officer's words "will remain in regimental history forever." true heroes

It's difficult to imagine the physical and mental torment these guys went through. And the sheer physical endurance it took to make it through a punishing physical landscape. Best story of the Gulf War!

    Outstanding Read

Andy does an excellent job writing this book. By far the most entertaining and amazing story I have read. What these soldiers endured on this mission baffles my mind. These are true warriors.

If you read Chris Ryan's book, read this one!

After seeing the film on the History channel, I bought this book along with Chris Ryan's. And while there's a certain level of adulation given to The One That Got Away, because he got away, Ryan never would've been able to do it without these less lucky guys (and let's be honest, a lot of luck went into not getting caught -- one person peeks into a wadi or a culvert and anyone who isn't invisible would have gotten captured) keeping their mission silent while being tortured in the most brutal of ways. They did this to give anyone who was POSSIBLY still on the run a chance to escape. Andy and the other four who kept their mouths shut enabled Chris Ryan to escape. It's teamwork to the nth degree. That's what you'll get out of this book, and you won't get from Ryan's.

    # 1 BOOK EVER

This is heroic account of the first gulf war. It is amazing to see the sacrifice and pain these great men went through to liberate Kuwait. The 8 men in this novel deserve unlimited amounts of respect along with the other heroic men that served there countries.

An Excellent Account of the Special Air Service.

This tightly written and informative account of Sgt. McNab's team as the attempted to sabotage Iraqi Scuds in the midst of the 1991 Gulf War reveals these men's sound tactical minds, heroism, dedication to country and mission, and resilient physical, emotional, and moral constitutions. Torture, abandonment, combat, and disease did little to break the spirits of these exemplary soldiers.

    A Great Book

I thought this was an excelent book. It made me realize the cruelty inflicted on US and British POWs and now i have a much greater respect of British troops. Especially those of the SAS, or 'the regiment'. Also there was a show on the histiory channel about McNab's story with interviews of him and others that were with him. I liked Andy McNab's style of writing so much that i am now reading Immediate Action, also by him.

    Superb!

Simply AMAZING! The kind of book you hate to put down!! The experience this SAS platoon went through is shocking, yet not suprising. Iraq is capable of far worse and needs to be neutralized now. McNabs account of everything from the weather, the enemy, the mission to almost making it to the Syrian border, only to find out he is a few miles short was heart stopping. One of the best book I've ever read. Bravo (no pun intended) for McNab for sharing his story with the rest of us who were young when this happened (I was 11).

I couldnt put this book down. I couldnt imagine going through the ordeal these men did. They deserve every bit of credit they receive. I am glad to see someone telling how terrible the Iraqis are.

Mcnab Has What It Takes !

Funny and honest, this is the tale you knew was possible. With attention to detail and humour to match, McNab neutralizes Tom Clancy and gives the Iraqi ego 'the good news'. THIS GUY SHOULD WRITE NOVELS !!!
