Brazilian Soul [2001]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - John Bush
As on his American debut, 1997's Black Pearls, Brazilian session veteran and saxophone virtuoso Leo Gandelman emphasizes covers that aren't quite standards. The best track here is a stunning remake of Herb Alpert's "Rise," though the sax player also contributes inventive arrangements of Beck's "Deadweight," Jobim's "Antiqua," and the João Donato-Caetano Veloso tune "A Rã." [The 2001 edition released on the Jazzeteria label features 11 tracks, and does not include the tracks "Fragile" and "Living on Sand Too," which were on the Jazzica/Push version issued in 1999.]
