Library Journal

Trying to hide her past by living as a smalltown librarian in Split Creek, OK, former CIA operative Paige Rogers wants nothing more than a quiet existence. But when a well-dressed stranger arrives in town and starts asking questions, Paige fears that she has been found by the person she fears most. Daniel Keary was once her commander until his actions caused the deaths of her teammates in a covert operation. Now running for governor, Daniel will stop at nothing to ensure that his past stays dead and buried. Featuring a well-paced plot and an engaging protagonist, Mills's ("Texas Legacy" series, When the Nile Runs Red) new series launch is a solid, if a bit predictable, suspense title. Recommended for public libraries.

    Cia

This book was very interesting and better then I thought it would be. Paige/Mikaela's life as a CIA operative was interesting to say the lest. A few other people complained how they felt GOD was being pushed on them as it was mentioned a lot in the book. I however disagree as faith has come into play with a lot of people and the work they do. How would you be if you were a CIA agent with some of the things you were asked to do where would your faith lie? The book if great, the characters were believable and had surprise twists.

    Awesome Christian Thriller

I was really impressed with this book (as well as the next in this series by Mills). I am a fan of geopolitical thrillers written by authors such as Vince Flynn, Alex Berenson, and Brad Thor--great CIA/military thrillers, but not Christian. Mills offers both (in a less intense manner, but still plausible) while exploring some intriguing moral themes to fans of thrillers such as: How does a Christian maintain a holy lifestlye while working as a spy? Where do you draw the line between not telling the whole truth and lying? I've read a lot of Christian fiction, and this has been different from anything I've encountered before. To me, it helps fill the misnommered disparity between Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek and whipping the money-changers out of the Temple, or of coming as the Prince of Peace and yet saying that if His Kingdom were of the world, He would definitely fight. Good discussion group book, because while Mills introduces these issues, she doesn't pretend to have resolved them at the end--it is left to the reader to resolve them personally, hopefully with the Word and prayer. Highly recommended.

    Loved the Adventure

Paige Rogers survived every CIA operative's worst nightmare-a covert mission gone terribly wrong, and a betrayal by the one man she thought she could trust. Forced to disappear to protect the lives of her loved ones, Paige has spent the last several years building a quiet life as a small-town librarian. But the day a stranger comes to town and starts asking questions, Paige knows her careful existence has been shattered. He is coming after her again. And this time, he intends to silence her for good.

Talk about a high-energy read. This book truly is an adventure that I so enjoyed reading. I found the character Paige Rogers to be a strong-willed woman with enough vulnerability to make her likeable as well as believable as a former CIA operative. The romantic elements involving Paige and the football coach at Split Creek's high school, Miles Laird, evolved naturally and ended on a satisfying note. If you enjoy action and adventure, this is one book you won't be able to put down.

    "Expect an Adventure."

I have taken writing classes from DiAnn Mills and this book is a testimony to her great teaching. She practices what she preaches.

The story deals with a dilemma many Christians face. Sometimes you have to do things you've been taught Christians don't do. If you can do a greater good by acting and a greater harm by not acting, what do you do? Do you allow more people to be hurt? Possibly murdered? Paige Rogers faces just such a dilemma. This book fulfills DiAnne's promise "Expect an Adventure."

    Under Cover

Paige Rogers reminds me of Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter, trying to keep his real identity secret. He has super powers that can't be revealed to the public. He only uses his powers to help people he cares about and/or to save them from danger.

I like DiAnn's spin on Paige, mild-mannered librarian, "Is she faster than a speeding bullet? Prettier than any belle of the South? It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Super Librarian!" The author does have some really funny lines mixed in with all the action, suspense and drama.

Paige Rogers has seen more action than someone would see in a couple of life times. All is well until Keary starts turning up the heat near the end of his run for governor. She's done her part and she wants Keary to hold to his end of the agreement they made in Africa. The price was high and she lost everything; there was nothing more to give him.

Paige struggles with her double life and holds off using her super-training until peoples lives are at stake - especially her own. I love Paige's sense of humor as she turns down a motorcycle ride from Miles because he thinks she is a shy, quiet librarian. She's playing the part when she says to Miles, ".I have a theory that people have only so much luck in life, and I've already stretched mine to the limit. Keep your Harley. I'll stick with my sensible economic car. And seat belts."

DiAnn writes a very exciting, surprising story about politics, the CIA and corruption. Readers beware!!! Once you pick up this book you won't stop until the end...

    Give me more!!

Fabulous. Absolutely love it. Best ever. This was a wonderful read. With my Alias addiction, this story felt familiar, yet was all at the same time unique and new. I am so pumped about this new Call of Duty Series from DiAnn Mills that I am extremely doubtful I will be able to stand the wait until 2010 for book #2.

We have action and adventure with tons of espionage. There are the CIA operatives, and counter-operatives. Good guys and bad. And then of course, there is the theme of how the everyday life works Jesus right in.

Fully a page turner, edge of your seat book. I could not find out what would happen next fast enough. I did see the bad guy early on, but I claim that to be my ultimate spy skills showing through. *grin*

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is good for anyone who enjoys shows such as Alias or 24, movies like Breach, Shooter, or others. If you read and enjoyed anything by Jill Elizabeth Nelson or Melanie Wells, you will absolutely LOVE this book and I am sure the entire series as well.

    Give me more!!!

Small Town Life Meets High Octane Intrigue

In Breach of Trust, DiAnn Mills poses a tricky question: How does a Christian CIA operative balance the necessities of deceit and subtrafuge with her faith? It's a question that plagues Paige Rogers - AKA Mikaela Olsson. And when Paige finds herself falling for Miles Laird, the small town's upstanding high school football coach, her life becomes even more tangled.

Mills has written a novel that combines small town charm with spy-thriller intrigue. In a town where not everything is the way it seems, Paige's journey through regret and remorse to redemption is riveting.

"Breach of Trust" by DiAnn Mills

Author DiAnn Mills treats readers to a suspense-filled read with her newest book, Breach of Trust, due out in March 2009.

The story's heroine, Paige Rogers, is an ex-CIA operative, who has gone into hiding in a small town in Oklahoma. To protect her family and loved ones, she has even faked her death and changed her identity.

As the town's librarian, she thinks she has the perfect cover, until her former boss, Daniel Keary, finds her and threatens her if she doesn't cooperate with him. To make matters worse, he's on track to become the next governor of Oklahoma.

The hero of the story is Miles Laird, the high school football coach. He doesn't hide his interest in Paige, but she keeps him at a distance because of her hidden past and threatening future. Dangerous circumstances bring them together in a breathless race to save the life of a child.

This wonderful story is one you won't want to miss. Here a few things I particularly enjoyed about Breach of Trust:

~Believable Characters - The author made a pistol-packing librarian seem like she lived next door. Paige Davis is realistically portrayed as both a professional secret agent and a small-town bookworm. Miles Laird is a godly man who cares about Paige and his students, and will do what is necessary to protect them all. The character of Daniel Keary is extremely well-drawn, and the reader is actually pulled inside his thoughts by a point-of-view technique (see the next point).

~POV Technique - DiAnn Mills made a brilliant move by writing most of the story in traditional third-person, but using first-person for the character of Daniel Keary. This technique lets us inside the twisted mind of the antagonist. Fascinating!

~Plot Twists Galore! - The making of a great suspense read is found in plot points that the reader doesn't expect. Mills pulls this off with superb mastery.

If you're on the lookout for the unexpected, the dangerous, and the suspenseful, don't miss out on reading Breach of Trust by DiAnn Mills!

    A fast-paced character driven thriller

Running as an independent conservative, former CIA operative Daniel Keary appears heading to victory as the Governor of Oklahoma. In Split Creek, Oklahoma lives former agent Mikaela Olsson under the guise of librarian Paige Rogers; Daniel¿s henchmen placed her there with the warning to remain silent or her Wisconsin parents will die.

Split Creek High School football coach Miles Laird has fallen in love with Paige who rejects his requests for a date. She is attracted to the caring but tough coach, but she is a realist as she knows she has no future as long as Keary is lurking. As the coach has a quarterback controversy caused by a player¿s rabid father who is on the school board, CIA agent Palmer pleads with Mikaela to help him bring down Keary before he is elected as doing it after would cause international damage to the country. He believes Keary killed his CIA teammates on the Angola mission in 2002 that Mikaela was fortunate to have survived with major leg damage and that he now is dealing illegally and deadly African oil. When Keary tries to bully Mikaela to join his election team, she prays to God for guidance before informing Palmer she will bring the deadly traitor down.

This fast-paced character driven thriller answers the question whether a CIA field operative expected to do all sorts of Ten Commandment sins can believe in God outside of a foxhole or being a fundamentalist claiming divine right. The story line focuses on Mikaela as Paige struggling with her failure to bring down the traitorous snake who has White House ambitions. She turns to God for solace and guidance even understanding that her Father works in mysterious ways as one woman¿s treasure is another¿s sacrifice. Although a mole in Split Creek fails to come across as a Keary undercover agent, fans will fully enjoy this strong tale as DiAnn Mills answers her fascinating question re God and the CIA. Readers who enjoy the works of Dee Henderson, especially her O¿Malley series will love BREACH of TRUST

Harriet Klausner

    Modern setting, same excellent writing

DiAnn MIlls shows a new side of her writing prowess with this novel. In this modern tale of romantic suspense, told with a Christian worldview, the protagonist is a former CIA operative, forced to live in a small town under deep cover as a librarian, to avoid retribution from a one-time colleague. There's danger and conflict on every page. It really is a page-turner. Mills' previous frontier novels have been very good. This one is, if anything, even better.
