A Nightmare Come True

NARRATOR: David Pittu
FORMAT: 5 CDs, Unabridged

As a member of the most powerful family history has ever known, thirteen-year-old Dan Cahill has been shot at, kidnapped, and even thrown into a pit with a deadly snake. He's survived it all due to luck, smarts, and his older sister, Amy, who always sticks by his side.

Now Dan and Amy are facing their greatest threat yet, an enemy who has found a way to use the source of the Cahill family power against them. To stop him, Dan and Amy must set out on a desperate mission that will take them from one of the world's hottest regions all the way to the frozen blast of the Arctic Circle. But with the enemy closing in , Dan finds himself facing the one terror he never imagined - being betrayed by his own sister.

From the Publisher

The 39 Clues remains...
-A NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling Children's Book Series
-A USA TODAY Bestseller
-A WALL STREET JOURNAL Bestseller
-A PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Bestseller
-An INDIE BOUND Bestseller
Children's Literature - Martie Holmes Smith
Teenagers Amy and Dan Cahill must stop ruthless J. Rutherford Pierce, in his scheme to use the Cahill’s serum to reach his goal of world domination. Because Pierce owns most of the world’s media, he is able to fool the public into thinking he is an excellent candidate for the Presidency. With the help of a cohort of very talented teenage friends, Amy and Dan look for the ingredients needed to counteract the effects of the serum, which supplies superhuman strength to those who use it. Breakaway is the second of four books following this quest, not a good place to start reading. Patrons are advised to read this series in order or to go to the 39 Clues website for plot summaries, character sketches and interactive games. Fans who have gotten this far in the 39 Clues story arc will need no persuading to continue. Librarians be warned—cards included in each book are difficult to monitor but they are important to the reader. Reviewer: Martie Holmes Smith; Ages 8 to 12.

The Cahill kids continue their clue quest to save the world. Though still a teenager, Amy Cahill's the leader of the rich and powerful Cahill family, so it falls to her and her younger brother, Dan, to decode the notebook of family founder Olivia Cahill. They need to find the ingredients to the antidote to the family's special serum, which has fallen into the hands of evil media mogul J. Rutherford Pierce, thanks to Sammy Mourad, a distant Cahill cousin. Having secured the first ingredient (Nowhere to Run, 2013), the duo and a few friends and relatives jet off to find the second, a supposedly extinct grain called silphium. Pierce's men (most of whom have taken the serum and now enjoy superhuman strength and intelligence) follow in hot pursuit, and Pierce's media holdings spread lies about Amy and her cohorts. Can Amy and Dan get along, find the ingredients and keep their friends safe? Can they even survive? Hirsch picks up where Jude Watson's first volume (of this new 39 Clues quartet) left off, with more improbable adventures and shallow characters. The series that has, in the past, been penned by some powerhouse authors wears a bit thin in this 19th book. Characters pop up with no introductions or backgrounding, and little time's spent catching readers up on past events. Topping the online game and trading cards, look for a movie next year. Only for series fans who haven't moved on. (Mutiplatform fiction. 9-12)

I love this book. It is one of the books that I recommend to all my friends. I love all the problems that Amy and Dan have to face. Between the problems between eachother and the problems between Amy and Jake. I can't believe Amy did what she did to Jake. I won't say. I don't want to spoil anything. If you like books that keep you in your toes then this is the book for you. Actually this whole series would be good for you. I would recommend this book to children and young adults. I love this book and I hope everyone else does too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
