Thankful, Kelly Clarkson's slightly underwhelming 2003 debut, could've marked the end of the first-season American Idol champ's 15 minutes of fame. But with her angst-filled, rock-edged sophomore disc, Breakaway, a sexier, more confident Clarkson proves she has staying power. This girl-next-door captured the A.I. crown by belting goose bump–inducing renditions of R&B classics ("Natural Woman") and adult contemporary–leaning power ballads (the single "A Moment Like This"), yet Thankful failed to capitalize on Clarkson's hazel-eyed soul, instead settling for Pink-reminiscent pop. But with the popularity of rock-lite chicks Ashlee Simpson and Avril Lavigne, it's a smart move for the raspy-piped Clarkson to wail -- more convincingly -- on guitar-fueled girl power anthems and disaffected love songs. The inspiring title track (originally featured on the Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack) and the new-wavy kiss-off "Since U Been Gone" will certainly strike a chord with tween and teen girls everywhere. With the star-making Breakaway, Clarkson is still America's favorite pop idol.

I still love this whole album! I still sing Hear Me or You Found Me on Sundays. I still sing Gone when I am angry at life or my ex boyfriend. You can't go wrong and Kelly clearly worked her butt off to breakaway from the pack and get into the Princess Diaries movies with Anne Hathaway. Totally worth it, worth every cent.=) 10 Stars, but I gave it 5 on here because that is all I could do!:D Go Kelly, we love you!:D

Kelly is going to rock on her sophomore release. I've heard a lot of clips from this album and they're all extremely well. There's nothing wrong with this. If you're looking for a good punkrock CD, this is the one to own!! FIVE STARS!!

I heard a private listin party of this CD and I LOVED it so's as good as her first CD actually it's even better..I love how she's going more into the rock roots of the songs..GREAT JOB KELLY!!!

While the title may get the brain wondering...that is exactly what this CD has done! She has exposed her very soul into the words of her songs. She did beautifully writing the lyrics, and had great people helping her express herself more openly. This CD is perhaps one of the best as of late...considering there is not one song that I would take off the record. However, I would add one that was a contender for a spot on the record, and that is "Don't" it is gorgeous. I was glad to see "Beautiful Disaster" made the cut because that was one of my favourite songs on the first album besides "Anytime." Her 2 singles that have been released are blowing up air time and just bringing her back into the spot light! Every track on this album has potential to be her next single, but songs like "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Addicted," "Because of You," "Hear Me," most definately steal the show. Even her slow songs can't be considered ballads because they are about how this person has mucked up her life, and she is recovering...they're more powerful than just any ballad...they are perhaps super ballads if there is such a thing. I most definately reccommend this CD to anyone that is willing to give music a try, and to those who think Kelly is hard core pop...pick this album up to prove yourself wrong.

It's just not anything special, it doesn't suite her my opinion.

she has proven she is more than just an american idol tv show star...with this album..she becomes an artist and strips herself of the American Idol i listen to the tracks on this album..its like she is stomping on the american idol crown..saying..enough!!!...i'm an artist...take me serious...and guess what..we do...she has proven she has longevity....ten years from now when Simon is nothing but a guy with a pot belly..and american Idol is nothing more than a $1.99 album in a fleemarket sell...kelly clarkson will be the worlds biggest artist....make note of when i write here again ten years from now..i can say.."told ya so!!!"...

I liked Kelly Clarkson back from her American Idol days when she sang "A Moment Like This". Now it seems like she's turning into an Avril "wannabe". It's such a disgrace. I was expecting more upbeat stuff or powerful ballads. Kelly is not a singer--she's a screamer. Only buy this if you're a Kelly Clarkson fan or like screamer singers.

Hey people if u enjoy a little sassy but nice singing that touches the soul, u've found it in Kelly Clarkson!!! I have started modeling my singing voice after her. She has such a broad range that she could sing anything!!! I also luv all of her songs are kissy-kissy yet clean, and that's rare these days!!!!

Kelly Clarkson did it again with her second CD! Her music is great to listen and it put you in a mood to dance your feet off. My favorite songs are "Breakaway" and "Since u been gone" great music when you feel a little bit down. I recommend this CD to anyone who is a Kelly Clarkson fan or who just like a songs.

This is a really good CD. Very rarely does the second cd live up to the artist's first, but this did! Of course i liked the songs "break-away" and "since you've been gone", but i really loved the song "behind these hazel eyes!"

The album is pretty good, but her voice isn't that great. I mean, it's ok, but not the best. She always takes big breaths, and her voice is low. But, other than that, she's good. I would buy this album.

This album is really good. She shows a lot of diversity in her voice. Her voice is amazing. She has a great range. She is a true pop rock singer, and the best and first american idol! I highly recomend this cd.

I really liked Kelly's second album. She has a really good voice and I can relate to the songs. I like "behind these hazel eyes", "because of you" and all the other songs are also really good. Go Kelly!!

Far superior to her first album. Not a "dud" track on the entire album.

I am still in love w/ "Thankful", so when I heard "Breakaway" was going to have a more rock-type song, I was slightly skeptical. I had my fingers crossed though that Kelly was going to prove herself to be more than just the "American Idol" and I was proved right..when I did get this cd, I was blown away! The rock sound is just enough to give kelly an edge but it's none of the "trying to too hard to be someone i'm not." I love the ballads from "Because of You" to the upbeat tunes "You Found Me," and "Breakaway" has been my personal anthem for the last few months. The lyrics were perfect for people like me, facing change (going off to college) & was ultra inspiring. I was also in awe at "Beautiful Disaster", because it is absolutely amazing live & just a beautiful song. I'm a music chemleon, so usually I rotate cds like crazy, however "Breakaway" has been in my stereo consistantly for the last few weeks & isn't being changed anytime soon!

For anyone who fell for Kelly Clarkson two years ago on American Idol and has followed her up to this point, Breakaway is an an incredibly rewarding piece of work. It proves that no one else in the business has the voice and versatility that Kelly has. The songs are deeper, more heartfelt and more likeable than her first outing in Thankful. I think Thankful put Kelly on the map as a potential future recording artist, but Breakaway solidifies it and then some. Kelly takes what is popular right now and does it better than the best. Many of the songs are reminiscent of Amy Lee (Evanescence), Hillary Duff, Ashlee Simpson, and Avril Lavigne - but what Kelly does is take the genre and crank it up a notch. Breakaway has a good mixture of beautiful ballads, catchy tunes, harder rock material and quality lyrics. Not to mention that Kelly showcases her fantasic songwriting abilities here as well. In fact, Because of You and Addicted are likely the two best songs on the album - and she wrote both of them. It certainly is something she should be proud of and an album that everyone with some assemblance of pop music should have in their collection. I am so impressed and very much looking forward to what comes next.

This is such a great album! Everysong is amazing! It's a real winner. Kelly got the chance to write more for this album including the amazing ballad "Because of You". This album is more rock then her first and its very tasteful. It really shows Kelly's vocal range, especially in the song "Gone". Each song just makes you wanna jump up and sing along with it. Another favorite of mine is "Beautiful Disaster (Live)" This song was orginial from her first album "Thankful". She chose to sing it a little bit different for her "Independent Tour". Kelly sings this amazing song accompanied by a piano. Fans just adore this version and u will too. I recommand this album to anyone!

WOW!! What can I say? This album is just simply AMAZING! If you love..or even like "Thankful", you'll absolutly LOVE "Breakaway". Kelly def. shows a pop-rock side in her songs and you can totally relate to all of them. This CD is worth the money, trust me!
