    A Fantastic Tale!

Breaking An Empire is a fast paced, action packed adventure that had me caught from the start. Laced with humor, Tallett does a great job with allowing the characters to spring from the page and shine through the brutality of war. I was completely fascinated by the strategic element of the story and immersed in the battle scenes.

The action played out like a movie in my mind and I felt myself connected to these characters and worried for their welfare. I hope there is a continuation or a prequel, because I would love to know more about the history of these characters and what makes them tick. A very fun addition to Tarranau, Tallett's full length novel. Such a fun world Tallett has created and I'll be waiting for the next book!

    Fantasy writing at its best

Breaking an Empire, the prequal to Tallett's debut novel, Tarranau, may be a novella, but don't let its size fool you. A page-turner that will grip you from beginning to end, it tells a story of friendship, of hope, determination, grief and deceit.

The battle sequences are so vivid and stunningly executed, you'll find your heart thumping as you fight alongside the soldiers.

Tallett's writing is descriptive and, at times, almost poetic. The movements of the men on the battle field are both eloquent and gruesome, and the story he tells will touch your soul.

Simply put, Breaking an Empire will leave you ready to dive farther into this world.

    A Very Compelling Story!

While this story is a prequel to Tarranau, it leaves you on the edge of your seat as you get caught up in the lives of a group of friends as they march out within the Glanhaol Fflamboethi in hopes of eradicating their enemy, the Niam Liad. An enemy that is quite ruthless and considers itself to be a step ahead of Bhreac Veryan's army.

Rhyfelwyr, Locsyn, Gwyth, Taflen, Llofruddiwr, and Gwewyr, friends since childhood, had enlisted in the army in hopes of bestowing honor upon themselves and their family. They've had their shares of up's and down's, yet not once has their friendships wavered. The years have taken their toll and they've begun to feel the strains of their enlistment.

When Ymerawdwyr learns of the treachery within the Niam Liad, he knows that time is short and calls upon the younger generation of his people to protect them and their beloved city. He refuses to allow the rebellion to arrive at the city's doorstep.

Heeding their Lord's call, the friends band together in hopes of achieving the goal that has been set before them. Yet they can't help but wonder if they'll make it back in one piece. Their friendships are tested as they battle along in hopes of bringing the rebellion to a stand still. Tensions begin to run high as they fight against the Niam Liad, finding death and destruction along the way. Yet one thing is clear, they'll be there for one another no matter what comes their way.

I got the chance to beta read this action-packed novella and must say that's come along way from the version that I'd previously read. It's that good! James has written such a compelling story, that it's quite hard to put down once you begin reading it. I truly recommend reading it and am looking forward to reading Tarranau, as well.
