Overview

This just in: Three adorable house cats are reporting the most hilarious breaking news! Based on author/illustrator Georgia Dunn’s real life pets, Elvis, Lupin, and Puck strap on neckties and pick up microphones to provide the most up-to-date relevant news stories (at least according to them).

Cats reporting on the news that matters to cats with stories such as The Vacuum Cleaner Is Back!, The Woman Is Cooking Bacon!, and The Ceiling Cats Are Everywhere Tonight! Cynical, no nonsense Elvis and shy, sweet, sensitive Puck are the reporter kitties in the field, while the adventurous jokester Lupin serves as anchor cat. Together they break headlines on the food bowl, new plants, mysterious red dots, strange cats in the yard, and all the daily happenings in their home.

Three cats report on their perspective of daily life with their human owners in cute but overly familiar set pieces in Dunn's debut collection of her webcomic. Dunn references situations any cat owner knows by heart, but the conceit of cats as newscasters with all the clichés of anchors and reporters gives them a sometimes new coat of paint. The appeal here are the pets: the cats look adorable holding microphones, wearing reporter clothing, and speaking their outrage. Each one has a distinct personality. Lupin is a white cat with big ears who takes things seriously, Puck is a black cat everyman, and angry comic relief Elvis is a suspenders-wearing Siamese with a hatred of just about everything. Marker and watercolor give the comics a soft, blended feel, fleshing out thin lines. The situational humor and funny outfits dress up each strip, making for an enjoyable, but not really memorable, look at living with cats. (May)

I've been reading this comic online for a year and it is such a joy. Not only are the illustrations beautiful, but the strip itself is warm, whimsical, and clever. Breaking Cat News is delightful for children or adults.

Cutest book ever. A true find for any cat or dog lover. I saw my dog herd in the antics of the cat "herd" . Drawings are gorgeous and the the story is adorable. I can't wait until she puts out another book. Will buy it the second it is available. Loved it.

I really enjoyed this book! The cats have such individual personalities, and they are all so charming! I love the art style. The comics explain many cat quirks so logically!

Oh how I loved “Breaking Cat News.” I still have a smile on my face just thinking about it and am going to buy a physical copy the next time I am in a bookstore. Any cat lover is sure to see their own cats in the news team, and it will make a perfect gift for anyone in your life that needs some cheering up. It’s also appropriate for children and is sure to get everyone laughing together. Highly recommended! This review is based upon a complimentary copy provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What at first appears to be a charming lark turns out to be an adventure delightfully awash in subtleties. These characters come alive under the illustrator's rapidly evolving brush. Dunn is truly gifted. This engaging collection is just scratching the surface of her talent. More, please.

This is just the first installment of a web comic that belongs in the echelons of Calvin & Hobbes, Bloom County, and Cul de Sac. You will feel comforted by the art. You will laugh at the antics. You will marvel at the story lines. Please, do yourself and the rest of us a favor and purchase this book so that Breaking Cat News takes its rightful place in comic strip history.
