Overview

Breaking Up with Barrett is the first book about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome English brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Alex. He's a womanizing manwhore. And maybe Stratton, because he's wicked hot, but super awkward around girls.)

Barrett English, aka "the Shark," is the fair-haired, first-born of the English brothers, and the CEO of the oldest, most prestigious investment banking firm in Philadelphia. He rules the boardroom with an iron fist, refusing to take no for an answer and always getting his way.

Emily Edwards, a first-year doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania, grew up in the gatehouse on the outskirts of Barrett's childhood estate. The daughter of his family's gardener and housekeeper, she was always looking through the window of privilege, but forced to remember her place at the very periphery of the kingdom.

When business partners suggest that afiancéemight soften Barrett's image over business dinners, he approachesEmily for the "job" offiancée. And while love wasn't necessarily on Barrett's radar, he begins to realize thatEmily always has been. But will his take-no-prisoners boardroom tactics work on the heart of the woman he loves?

Rich emotionally distant businessman and the lovely grand daughter of the help in some fake romance that turns real. Ok you've proabley read it or something remarkably similar before. It is readable and if you like the formula and want something to read it won't excite but it won't disappoint either.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a clean, lighthearted love story that wasn't filled with sex. It was refreshing to see that Emily was concerned about her morals enough to ignore her feelings for Barrett, even to the point of walking away from her lifelong dream. Fantastic! I will continue to read the rest of the English Brothers series.

This is a great book if you want to read an amazing love story! Emily is great but Barrett is my fave! I think this is one book that everyone should read!

This short and sweet romance caught me by surprise. I found my heart melting more and more as we learned more about Barrett's long held love for Emily. I appreciated the fact that while Barrett tried to protect her, he was actually being manipulative, and Emily wasn't afraid to call him out on it. While I think the text could have benefited from some copy editing, the few mistakes I noticed didn't distract from the story at all. I expect to grab the next book in the series soon!

Sometimes love and romance are the product of knowing someone since the day they were born and it grows slowly over a period of time. It is always worth the wait. .

Loved it. Can't wait to continue reading the series. Couple of grammatical errors (very small ones).

Most books have heroines who are overly dramatic and emotionally immature. Although that causes drama, I really appreciate how this author creates a good story while having great realistic characters. I will read more by this author!

A forever love This was a sweet story of Barrett English and Emily. A love of a lifetime and a bond to last forever. I enjoyed the sweet side to Katy Regnery, and I am looking forward to meeting the other English Brothers.

Cute short read. Nothing new or exciting but not too bad either. Not Intriguing enough to want to read mre of the series. Passion was good but a little odd that he felt it when she was born as an eight year old and as a 20 year old admired her at 12 yrs.

An enjoyable friends-to-lovers tale! **** It was a quick read so I finished it within 24 hours of starting it. Barrett was hands down my favorite character. I almost melted in a puddle when he thought back to his 8-year old self meeting baby Emily for the very first time. I like how he formulated a plan to be around her more in order to see if he was right about finding his soul mate all those years ago now that they were both mature adults. And I loved how he didn't hesitate to tell her how he felt: “And if you want to know what’s real, here’s the most elemental truth I know: you’re the love of my life, Emily Edwards. And whatever it takes, I’ll do it. Just to be with you.” I'm hooked so I'm definitely eager to read the next English brother's story, Falling for Fitz (The English Brothers #2).

My Thoughts: The fake engagement trope is one of my favorites, and in Breaking Up with Barrett it is done very well! The relationship between Barrett and Emily has a bit of a slow burn effect. They've known each other for years, and something's always been below the surface between them. I was captivated by their journey, and watching it switch from pretend to maybe, possibly, kinda real was a really nice transition. The story is delightful, and the age difference (8 years) didn't bother me at all. Everything about the way the romance blossomed made me smile. How they didn't allow class differences to get between them. I loved the growth of the characters, how much stronger they become as time passes. Barrett and Emily are meant to be, but it just took them years to fully realize it. If this is how great The English Brothers series starts, I can't wait to pick up more by Katy Regnery! My Rating: Very Good

I was expecting a predictable story, but I was pleasantly surprised. Barrett was refreshingly layered, as was Emily. I felt like I got to know both characters.
