Overview

Breath of Kenya delightfully and dramatically relives the experience of a lone white man on his first missionary journey to a primitive and remote African village.

Charles Herrick lives among the mud huts and strange customs of Kenya in a manner not unlike the Africa of centuries gone by.  He comes across a creeping health malady that is killing scores of villagers. Though not a doctor, he determines to resolve it.

More About This Book

Written in an engaging style that takes you from intrigue to abhorrence, empathy to anger, the quirky humor often makes you laugh out loud while offering a balance to the tragic occurrences captured so poignantly and personally.

This book touches the heart, the mind and the funny bone.  It is one of those books that pulls you in, holds onto you and makes you see things a little differently for a brief time - maybe forever.

    Touches the heart and soul

As you begin reading, you find yourself transformed to the moment he made the decision to leave his life of luxury and comfort for an environment that most people would immediately run from. There is a moment of panic that you cannot help but feel as he walks down the jetway and looks back at his wife and daughter. He allows the reader to see through his eyes, feel from his heart and begin to realize how each of us may, in fact, take our lives for granted. It is an awakening that leaves you filled with gratitude and opens your eyes to the possibilities of helping each other. It is a book filled with love, appreciation and a dedication to help make the lives of each person he met just a little bit better, whether with a kind word, smile or a bottle of clean water. The story he tells is ongoing. The people of Kenya are still in need of the kindness of strangers and I haven't decided who benefited the most from his trip. Charles Herrick or the friends he made in Kenya? I look forward to the continuation of this story.

    The rhythm of Kenya

This book brought me back to Kenya. Herrick was able to bring words togeather that truly brings to life the texture of day to day life and the Kenya rhythm between man and nature.
