Overview

In the shore town of Sea Breeze, Sadie discovers that fame is nothing in the face of passion. A steamy read from bestselling author Abbi Glines.

Sadie White’s summer job is at the beach, but she won’t be working as a lifeguard. Since her mom is pregnant and refuses to work, Sadie will be taking over as a domestic servant for a wealthy family on a nearby island.

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie were normal—if she hadn’t spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house—maybe she’d be excited about working for a rock star. But she’s not.

Even though Sadie isn’t impressed by Jax’s fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax, but he fights his attraction: Relationships never work in his world, and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. Yet as the summer stretches on, Jax’s passion leaves him breathless—and Sadie feels like the only source of oxygen.

Can their love overcome the disparity in their lifestyles? One breath at a time, they’re going to find out…

For ages 17 and up.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - AnjeanetteAlexander-Smith
Sadie has no time for superficial love. Experience has taught her that it will only result in babies and strife. Her mother, who is pregnant with her second child, is proof of that. She trades roles with Sadie and becomes the child. With a third mouth to feed, Sadie has to take over her mother's new cleaning job. When she runs through the housekeeper's gauntlet, Sadie begins work for one of the sexiest teenage heartthrobs in the music industry. She is unimpressed until she meets Jax. His charismatic, caring personality robs Sadie of her common sense. Jax has never met anyone like Sadie. She is not your average teenage girl. The true reason behind her working as a domestic for his family intrigues him. He abandons his no-strings-attached philosophy, but two people may have something to say about this union: Marcus, another housekeeper, and Star, an old fling. Glines's use of Jax and Sadie as narrators allows the reader to delve deeper into the people behind this budding romance. The novel treads upon the boundaries of new adult romance due to its steamy scenes and Jax's age. Adolescent girls will connect with the undeniable attraction that brews between the young lovers. This novel would work well as an independent reading selection in high school classrooms. Libraries could include it in the young adult romance section and in themed collections that revolve around single-parent homes and the class divide. Reviewer: AnjeanetteAlexander-Smith

    A great read

    Breathe by Abbi Glines
    My Summary:

Sadie has grown up way too fast. She never knew her father, he was married to another women. From the age of eight she has run the house. Her beauty queen mother attracts the wrong kind of men and can't keep a job. There has never been time for Sadie to have a childhood. She cooks, cleans, makes sure the bills are paid and stuffs condoms into her mom's purse when she leaves for dates. It does no good though because they just moved away from another bad relationship and her mom is pregnant. Starting over on the Alabama coast is already a problem. Sadie's mom, Jessica, is struggling to go to work because of her pregnancy and Sadie has no choice but to go in her place and hope they let her fill in. Sadie is determined to keep the job for the summer. She may need more than that since young girls are never hired to work in this rich house. The house belongs to the teen rock star and heart throb, Jax Stone. Spending his summer away from touring and adoring fans, the last thing he needs is a silly teenager working in his house. But Sadie isn't a silly teenager and she is desperate for the job. She's also inherited her mother's looks but the responsibility that has been put on her has made her less outgoing. Can she stay away from the rock star and keep the job? Can he stay away from her? What happens if they don't stay away from each other?

    My thoughts:

    4 ½ stars - a great read

It's interesting; I can tell how much I like a book by how long my mind wants to stay in that world when I'm done reading it. So with the story of Sadie and Jax, I continued thinking about it well after I was done turning the pages. Can I just set aside the fact that this is a love at first sight book? I sometimes wonder about those books. How can anyone fall in love at first sight? Well maybe this was a lust at first sight that a relationship grew from because while they were both attracted to each other immediately a relationship developed over time. Jax has looked for a girl for a long time that drew his interest. They were all fans or celebrities. None of them interested him. Then he meets Sadie. She doesn't have his poster hanging on her bedroom wall. She doesn't know she's beautiful. I guess anyone can feel that way if they are forced to grow-up and not given the chance to be a teenager. She's never had time for friends or school activities where she might have learned that guys find her attractive. She isn't prepared for Jax Stones charm or his steel blue eyes. She isn't prepared for the way he makes her body react when he's in the room. He knows the idea of a relationship with her is a bad idea. His life of touring and the media is hard to take. He knows when he leaves in the fall, it would all be over. But neither of them can resist. So maybe you've heard that story somewhere before, but this tale has a few twists that make it unique. There's the fact that Jax isn't full of his own ego and he cares about people. There are the locals that aren't sure how to handle the rock star or the girl that works for him. There's Marcus, who would rather that Sadie loved him. There's the local press that makes things hard. There's Jessica who can't be a mom and struggles to be pregnant. There's Ms. Mary who treats Sadie like a daughter for the first time in her life. There are laughs and there are tears. I cried as I read of Sadie's heartache as her life just gets harder and h

    This is a must read!

I was recently traveling through Europe while reading this book. I missed much of the scenery because I couldn't put this book down. I was totally engrossed in this book. I've read many novels this year and must say this is one of my favorites. Glines is a wonderful writer. I think I experienced every emotion with the characters. i look forward to more books from this amazing author.

    AMAZING

IT HAS BEEN A REALLY LONG TIME SINCE I FOUND A BOOK THIS GOOD. Jax is not the sterotype guy in books evrn without hearing his thoughts you seem to FEEL what he is thinking. Sadi is evrn more complicated and that is what makes this book amazing. A summer fling turning into the life we all want.

    What is everyone talking about

This book was awful. If you want to read a romance with substance this is not the book for you. The characters were shallow and the relationship could have been better if the story was developed more but everything was rushed and i could not believe in the romance developing as fast as it did despite being a romantic myself. I was horribly disappointed with this book especially after reading all of the good reviews.

    Romance novel?

When i found this book i first thought the story was super cute and would really go places. However, when i checked some of the negative reviews, i was cautious when deciding on the book. But i always hope that i will like the book despite the negative reviews (glass half full kind of girl...what can i say?). Anyway i was very disappointed! The book is definitely not a mature romance novel. It is very juvenile...including only hugs and kisses (aww...so cute--UGH). If you're looking for an adult/mature teen romance novel PLEASE do not buy this! I couldn't wait for it to be over! Cute story but not enough romance or substance to carry the novel to be as great as it very much could've been!

I gave this book two stars. First of all great story line but really bad development. The charcters spoke like robots, and I felt like the whole flow of the story was bad. I'm going to read the sequel to this book "Because of Low" because I bought already and cant return it and hoping that it will be better than what I have read so far.

    Great...kinda

I liked the story, i really did, but there are two things i absolutely cannot stand if misused in a book: writing style and dialogue. The writing style in BREATHE was fairly decent, though not the best. The characters' emotions werent portrayed as well as they could have been and the flow of the story was often interrupted by unexpected turns that didnt fit in, but other than that it was fine. I think Glines was trying to find her style in this book, since she does a better job in her latter books. The dialogue...*grunts*. To say it nicely, it was rough. To put it out in the open, it was downright awful. The main character has had a tough life, shes mature for her age, yadayada, but does she have to talk like an old lady? Even worse, do Jax and Marcus, who, as far as im concerned, have lived easier lives compared to the girl whose name i cant remember, have to talk like they came out of a prehistorical book? Im not sure what the authors intentions were making them talk like that, but it frustrated me enough to make me drop my nook and take a deep breath and count to ten. Or thirty, it depends on the severity of the horror. In the later books of the series the improvements regarding both the addressed issues are obvious and vast (thank you dear baby jesus) though everything felt shallow... I think im getting ahead of myself so anyways, BREATHE is a quick read thats entertaining enough to keep you occupied if you can stand the muchtooformal dialogue.

I am really surprised by the number of five star reviews for this book. It's a great idea, and I enjoyed the story, but I agree with a previous reviewer when they said that all of the characters spoke like robots. It's a good plot, but the dialogue needs a lot of work. The teenagers in this story did not talk like teenagers. They didn't talk like anyone I've ever heard, actually. It's an enjoyable story. I liked Sadie and Jax as characters, and they had some great moments. But Jax behaved like a rather idealized teenage guy, rather than an actual one. And Sadie wasn't totally realistic either. This could have been a lot better with the benefit of an agent or a stronger editor. I enjoyed it while I was reading it, but it's one of those books that leaves you with an unsatisfactory after taste. You enjoy it in the moment, but after you realize all of the flaws.

    Beautiful story

I thought this was a beautiful love story - I always read books before my teenager to make sure they are appropriate and this is an appropriate book for my daughter. I love where Jax says that sometimes love is not enough - but in the end love wins!

    Second eddition

Ok so breathe came out a while ago in a different version. It was less expensive and didnt have as much sex as the rest of her series which im dissappointed about. The past version of breathe was perfect apparently this one has "steamier scenes" like what? Im really disappointed this author is turning into someone eho just writes books with sex in them now the first version of breathe isnt even available. It was the most perfect YA book!!!!!! It was so sweet and i adored Jax. needless to say i will not be wasting ten dollars on this new edition where she just adds more make out sessions and shows jaxs attraction for her through his pov. The other book was great because it was sweet and simple.... also the freakin cover doesnt freakin fit the story at all Sadie is sweet while the cover is just slutty. I hate it! Just like the reat of her books she changed everything waaaaaaay too much ugh

    Aweful

This book made me feel gross and icky it had scenes in it that made my insides feel sick if this is what authors are writing now prepare for an insluaght of pregnancies this book had horrible language and and seared revolting scenes in your head. I feel nauseated just thinking about it. I had to archive it because i never want to see it again and have those images pop right back into my brain. This story had potential but was ruined by language and vulgarity! This was a diappiontment on more levels than stars in the sky. I dont understand how someone could write this and not feel disgusted by their words. This book was disturbing scaring and leaves you feeling empty.

    The best cheesy romance ever

So when considering this book and you have come across my review here are my thoughts. This book is a very sweet cheesy romance. I am one of those people who doesn't enjoy cheese but with this book something was there that made it stand out. While reading it I couldn't stop. I loved the fact that Jax was sweet, but during the book I almost felt as if he was too sweet. I can always come back to this book and read it again so it is a worth while buy. Some how it was just a great book. Mixed feelings in the feelings but overall great book.
