Excerpt:
The fighting pit had seen better days. The sand was clumped with spider blood and golem oil in addition to the nasty gash Qoo’lag had left in the stone.
And it was vibrating.
Liera had grown so used to ignoring the crowd noise that she hadn’t even noticed that they had begun chanting.
Smagh. Smagh. Smagh.
“You know him, you love him,” Gurak was booming to an eager audience, “He chewed his way out of a red dragon and smashed his way back in. He is the Demonsmasher, the Angelripper, and the Godslayer.”
The crowd was on their feet. Liera could barely keep hers as the fighting pit shook from their crescendo of applause.
None of those nicknames sounded good.
“Please welcome Smagh the Ogre!”
In a world of giants, Smagh might have been short.
In the world of men, elves, and orcs, Smagh was a giant.
His weapon was the great iron hammer he wielded with his two enormous hands.
He didn’t wear armor. Only a loincloth covered his massive bulk. His great belly spilled over his waist and layers fat concealed the layers of muscle that Liera knew hid underneath.
For Liera knew of Smagh. All of elfkind knew of him. But they knew him by a different name.
The Ogre Emperor. The creature that had killed the elven god of wine by defeating him in a drinking contest.
Liera could feel a new resolution burning within her. The elf’s fatigue and weariness fled in an instant, replaced with a cold determination.
Her people would be avenged.
