Overview

Brett Favre is in a league of his own. Born on October 10, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi, he was a small-town hero with big dreams. By age 27, he had forged a place among professional football's all-time greatest quarterbacks. A fierce competitor and a team leader, Favre has been awarded the National Football League's Most Valuable Player honor a record-setting three consecutive years. During his 17-year career, he has led the Green Bay Packers to six division titles, 10 postseason appearances, and a Super Bowl victory. Favre holds several NFL career records, including touchdown passes, victories, and pass attempts and completions. Despite all of these accomplishments, he is perhaps best known for his durability-the eight-time Pro Bowler has started in 253 consecutive games during his 16 seasons with the Packers. An incredible quarterback with remarkable toughness, Favre will stand forever as an icon in Green Bay.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Margaret Orto
Throughout Brett Favre's storied career as quarterback for the Greenbay Packers, he continually showed his ability to soar above adversity and embrace challenges, earning him the label of "tough guy." Koestler-Grack begins this narrative, which is part of the "Football Superstars" series, with the stirring story of Favre playing one of his greatest games ever, just one day after learning that his beloved father had died of a heart attack. The following chapters relay Favre's childhood, influences, his path to the pros, the setbacks and triumphs in both his professional and personal life, and his legacy to the sport. Favre grew up in the small southern Mississippi bayou town of Kiln, surrounded by a family who lived and breathed sports—both of Favre's parents were physical education teachers, and his father coached Favre on the high school football team. Once in the National Football League, Favre's competitiveness, his many records, and his excellent team leadership not only earned him a place as one of the all-time greatest quarterbacks but also the NFL's Most Valuable Player honor for an unprecedented three consecutive years. The excitement and triumph of leading his team to Super bowl victory in 1996 and to the Super bowl in 1997 are recorded here, as is the special bond that Favre has with devoted Packers fans. Favre's personal life, including becoming a teenage parent, and his struggle with and eventual overcoming of a painkiller addiction is fully described here. The book ends with the 2007 season, when he is still playing for the Packers. This book is a high interest title that, in addition to the exciting narrative, includes colorful photos, engaging sidebars, statistics,a timeline, chronology, glossary, book and website suggestions for further reading, and an index.
