This catalog is the finest expression to date of Brett Weston¿s master works. It is a dynamic survey representing the spectrum of his entire career. It¿s doubtful that anyone has ever seen all the photographs that were produced by one of the greatest and most prolific photographers of the 20th Century. There are always surprising discoveries yet to be revealed, however, this collection should satisfy even the most discriminating connoisseur. Although the tri-tones reproductions tend to be on the greenish side, still the value of the book as representing Brett¿s vision is unrivaled. It also contains the usual essays repeating the usual rationalizations of the artist¿s work. Even so, the biographical essay contains some interesting anecdotes and is quite entertaining. In closing, it is nice to see that Brett, even in death, is not a victim of the pseudo-artistic hagiography that has accreted to the careers of other photographers including Ansel Adams.
