He laid out lots and roads and operated a ferry across the creek, and with the passing of time, the village reached southward toward Philadelphia. Originally called Kirkbridesburg, the people dropped the "Kirk" and Bridesburg was born.

Their interest piqued by stories flowing throughout the community from old-timers, a small group of people got together in 1989 and formed the Bridesburg Historical Society. They charted a course to gather and record the heritage of their community and to acknowledge those who came before them and those who are to follow. The society authored this volume with images from their archives.
