|Introduction: "The Serious and the Smirk"|

Trimble's book is ambitious, broad and interesting but in the end somewhat unsatisfying. While he analyzes smiling from many angles, most especially as they appear in art, there is no cohesive narrative nor does there seem to be an underlying point at which he is getting. What results is a jumble of interesting facts but not much more. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
