Ruotsila (a researcher at the U. of Tampere, Finland) offers a comparative history of the socialist, liberal, and conservative strands of Anglo-American anti-Communist thought prior to the Cold War. He contextualizes anti-Communism with contemporary movements toward social reform and international organization, shows how liberal and socialist forms of anti-Communism were dominant Anglo-American trends in the 50 years before the Cold War began, and were carried over into the post-1945 period essentially unchanged. He also finds that during that time, a more conservative anti-Communism developed, directed as much against Western liberalism as against Soviet communism. The book is distributed in the US by ISBS.
