Barnes & Noble - Ganda Suthivarakom
You can only be a girl-woman for so long, and on her third album, Britney Spears puts her mall-pop sound under the knife. On the best cuts, ubiquitous megaproducers the Neptunes and Rodney Jerkins help Britney make the transition from teen-pop idol to legitimate artist in style by providing her with grittier, frenetic beats. The Vanity Six-sampled first single, "I'm a Slave 4 U," features Brit's seductive panting atop the Neptunes' spare, hip-swiveling track. Swedish pop maestro Max Martin and his partner, Rami -- frequent Spears, 'N Sync, and Backstreet Boys collaborators -- make a return appearance on the multilayered, beat-laden "Overprotected," as well as on ...

Swedish pop maestro Max Martin and his partner, Rami -- frequent Spears, 'N Sync, and Backstreet Boys collaborators -- make a return appearance on the multilayered, beat-laden "Overprotected," as well as on the anthemic, Dido-penned ballad "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman." Just as Janet Jackson did on her woman-on-the-verge triumph, Control, Britney makes a bid to steer her career by co-writing a number of the disc's 12 tracks, including the charming disco-lite boardwalk jam "Anticipating." Her new sound is less eager to please and more ambitious than anything she's done in the past, and the album's lyrics, when not overtly sexual, sound like they've been lifted from the diary of a petulant teenager. While her maturing fan base may empathize, the mix of come-hither and get-out-of-my-room makes Britney an intriguing set of mixed messages about love, sexuality, and adulthood that will surely provide grist for feminist critics. The blossoming Ms. Spears may not know who she is yet, but her fans will enjoy listening while she tries to figure it out.

    Perfect-Britney's best!

I loved Britney Spears since I first heard Baby One More Time but this had to be the best. I cannot find a song better by Britney than Overprotected. I love all of her songs, and I am really happy with her outcome as a singer.

    Her newest cd!

i love this cd. out of all her three cd's this is the best one. She has grown up an is now more mature. Her voice sounds great. You should have all three of her cd's. The songs are great. I love them all. I can't wait until her fourth album "In the zone" comes out! It comes out November 18th. It will be great! Britney fans are gonna buy it. I know I am.

    Britney Bombs

Britney's only song worth listening to on this album is "Overprotected." Her pathetic attempts to re-do songs, such as "I Love Rock 'N Roll" leave much to be desired and take away from the original song. Almost all of her songs are in the same key, and her poor vocal span is painfully obvious in this record. Hopefully this will be the end for lip-sychers and will open the gate more for real, talented women who can actually sing.

    Stuck in a teenagers mind

Britney has a great voice and uses it well. Or, wait, she has a good voice, and butchers it by using all those modern computer-voice-enhancement technologies. Dear Britney, you're over-producing it. Don't be afraid to not get approval from everyone. Well, I guess it's too late for that now with Avril, Michelle, and Vanessa in the game, huh? I would call Britney a good vocalist, but that's all, nothing special. No musical talent, no songwriting, songs only relate stereotypical teenage-angst, bad role model, abuses her good looks, etc.

    Excellent work for her third...

This album came out over a year ago,but i feel it is necessary to clarify that i think this is some top-notch work for a "pop" star. She and her producers provide a superior combination of hip-hop and urban beats with a traditional pop style that people expect from her. It is also more personal than her previous 2 albums. I expect her next will be even better and I look forward to it. Good job, brit.

    Britney Growing Up

Every time Britney Spears comes out with a new album, the album reflects the stages of her life. Through her last three albums, her fans have watched Britney grow up. Her latest CD, ¿Britney¿, is full of spice, as well as power and passion. She definitely sets a trend for other pop artists in this generation. Britney¿s struggle with adolescence is revealed in her hit single ¿I¿m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman¿. Most songs in this album, like, ¿Overprotected¿ and the controversial ¿I¿m A Slave For You¿, effectively conveys a message to the public that she no longer is a little girl, but a sexy independent individual.

    WOW!

The rock, the pop, the ear-candy, & the truth. The truth that the critics don't want to admit is that she can't be beat. There's NOBODY better than the amazing & most talented, Miss Britney, so a little advice to all you wannabes like Alicia Keys, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!
