Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This excellent, albeit slim history of dramatic theater on Broadway is both educational and entertaining. The six plays that Harris (theatre, Texas Christian Univ.) discusses, one from each decade, were chosen according to ``a variety of criteria: popularity, literary merit and durability.'' He explores the artistic, technical, and administrative factors involved in the production of You Can't Take It with You (1936), Death of a Salesman (1949), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1962), American Buffalo (1975), and Broadway Bound (1986). The detailed appendix lists the cast and production staff for these six dramas as well as many other major productions. Essential for serious theater collections.-J. Sara Paulk, Satilla Regional Lib., Douglas, Ga.
