Toby Keith stars in the film Broken Bridges and its soundtrack, as a down-on-his-luck country singer who returns to his hometown to find the woman -- and daughter -- he left behind. The bittersweet film features a bevy of performances by Keith, including his current hit single, "Crash Here Tonight." Also of note are "Uncloudy Day," featuring Keith, Willie Nelson, and gospel great BeBe Winans, and the title duet, performed by Keith and costar Lindsey Haun (who plays the teenage daughter her never met). Tracks by worthies such as Matraca Berg, Sonya Isaacs, and Fred Eaglesmith round out this gritty musical offering.

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The soundtrack to Toby Keith's feature film debut Broken Bridges is a rather understated affair, particularly in comparison to the robust, rowdy White Trash with Money, released earlier in 2006. If White Trash found Keith taking some risks, Broken Bridges finds him playing it straight, whether he's singing sentimental tunes or kicking up some dirt on a handful of rockers. Those loose, fun rockers arrive at the end of the soundtrack to Broken Bridges, almost as an award for fans who have put up with the eminently tasteful folky country and gospel that comprises the rest of the record, and by the time they do arrive they are a relief; things have gotten so earnest that some party anthems, like "Play by All the Rules, Miss All the Fun," are sorely needed. That said, there's a certain understated charm to the earnestness of the rest of Broken Bridges and the fact that Keith has brought in such understated songwriters as Fred Eaglesmith and Matraca Berg for his big-screen debut illustrates that he's a more complicated figure than some may initially think. But even if it's in good taste, Broken Bridges is frequently pleasant but rather dull despite such lighter moments as Scotty Emerick's "What's Up with That"; its heart is in the right place, but it's rather forgettable.

    Wonderful Soundtrack

Included on this album are tracks by country veterans and some new comers. "Uncloudy Day" features Willie Nelson, Toby Keith and BeBe Winnans and will be appreciated by long time country fans. Toby Keith doesn't disappoint with new music including "Zig Zag Stop" and some tunes from past albums including the gentle ballad, "Crash Here Tonight" and the fun "Jacky Don Tucker". New comer Lindsey Haun shines with her song "Broken" and in the brilliant duet with Keith, "Broken Bridges". I'm sure we will be seeing more from Haun as she has been signed to Keith's Show Dog label and has been featured on his recent tour. This is one soundtrack that shouldn't be missed.

    Toby Shows Depth & Versatility

Toby Keith, again, shows us his versatility on this CD. He hits us with a fun, new sound in, "Zig Zag Stop." Not to mention that he wrote most of the songs on the CD. Incredibly amazing and talented artist. His mellow voice in the acoustic version of, "Crash Here Tonight" is sure to please! Bringing back, "Jacky Don Tucker" was brilliant! Perfect addition to this sound track.

    Consummate artist, now actor

Toby Keith has always considered himself foremost a songwriter, then add singer, entertainer. He has honed his skills so well, noone writes like he does. Considering he wrote Broken Bridges in 2 days!... Then he wrote others to fit the movie... Fantastic, is there anything this man can not do??????? How do you like him now????
