Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The 41st millennium is many things, but it isn't pretty. Human survivors in the Reef Stars are threatened on all sides by predatory invaders; only the Iron Snakes Chapter stands ready to preserve this threatened species. A stellar Space Marines military sci-fi novel.

    Best I've read in years

This is the first book in a long time that I literally could not put down. It's like the author, Dan Abnett, took all of the great books and movies that I have enjoyed through the years, took the best part of each, and distilled it all down to create this masterpiece. Having said that, let me add that it is very much an original work, not a cheap take-off of someone else's product like so much of what I find being sold these days. My brother and I each have a list of books that we call our 'once-a-year' books, those that we read over and over, at least once a year. Brothers of the Snake will most certainly be added to that list.

I found this book after reading Abnett's "Embedded." H

I found this book after reading Abnett's "Embedded." Having little knowledge of the Space Marines, I thought I would give it a try as I was so fond of "Embedded." This is a action packed, fast paced story that didn't delve any further then required into the intricacies of the Space Marines. My only complaint is the disjointed way the story is told, being broken up into sections that almost make it feel like a series of short stories leading up to the last, and longest, section. That said, all in all an enjoyable fast paced story.

This is not to standard of Dan Abnett.

I have read just about all of Dans books and about 80 Warhammer 40k in general. So its sad to say that as I am reading this book Im finding it rather disapointing. It does not carry the standards set forth by all of the other novels involving space marines. There is a part in the book where he has to report to a new king. Priad and his squad kneel before all the nobality and pay homage to the kind. Or where he has to call mere mortals sir and lord. That is not how the space marines should be portrayed. and that was the biggest dissapointment about this book and it reflects bad to the iron snakes chapter.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great Buy, Must Read.

I must say, this was the first Warhammer 40k book I've read and is a great book to get introduced to the Space Marines. The story deals with the several undertakings of different planets, the characters great and there is a ton of action in this book. I've read it more than once. I reccomend this book to those fans of the author and for those who are trying to get into space marines chapter.

    I Also Recommend:

    Disappointing

I have read the Horus Heresy books written by Abnett as well as all the other HH books. I have also read many others of his, this one was a bitter disappointment. The main character is as boring as they come, the book is a snore until the middle area where it gets better but it isn't worth the time. Abnett is arguably one of the best Warhammer 40k authors, but this is not an example of why.
