Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up—This book discusses the historical background that led up to the landmark court case and gives additional information on integration through 2009. It discusses the obstacles African Americans faced in the pursuit of public-school integration and the lengths to which those who opposed it fought for segregation. The dialogue is based on documented conversations. Aretha provides an in-depth analysis of the happenings behind the movement and the events that affected the decision while detailing the court case. He presents the information in an easily comprehendible manner for students with little or no background knowledge. All of the bibliographic references can be used for further research. Abundant black-and-white photos are clearly reproduced. A good choice for libraries in need of detailed information on Brown v Board of Education in an approachable format.—Joyce F. Scott, Hempstead High School, NY
