"Graphic designer Bruno Munari is one of the most inventive picture book creators I know. I have been inspired, entertained, and in awe of his work since I was a graphic design student in Germany more than 50 years ago. And Zoo has been one of my favorites. I am delighted that it is available once again for a new generation of picture book readers of all ages." Eric Carle

Illustrations and brief text introduce more than twenty zoo animals, including a rhinoceros that is always ready to fight and a peacock that struts proudly because he is the peacock.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In the dynamic spreads of Bruno Munari's Zoo (1963), Munari makes the most of white space, as a zebra enters from the left-hand page and exits on the right ("A zebra is an animal in striped pajamas"), with just a strip of midnight blue and a crescent moon at the top and a tuft of grass at the bottom edge of the pages. Other scenes depict the animals interacting ("When it rains, birds seek shelter under the elephant"), playing up the contrast between animal sizes. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
