Overview

Jack Johnson, the multi-talented American guy who likes to surf and play music, makes an honest impression on his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. He's not focused on any genre in particular, but stays close to acoustic simplicities. Ben Harper's producer, J.P. Plunier, lends a hand and perfects Johnson's basic songwriting into a charming and inviting soundscape of songs most personal to Johnson. It's poetically abrasive, especially on tracks like "Sexy Plexi" and "Fortunate Fool," but Jack Johnson is a regular guy and his most natural feelings are indeed candid. "Inaudible Melodies" is a bluesy mix of lazy harmonies and acoustical twitching, whereas "Flake" is an easy flow of American trad rock, quite similar to Dave Matthews, but echoing steel drums and Harper's blistering lap steel guitar make for an outstanding rock & roll romp. Johnson's voice, which is hauntingly like Wes Cunningham, makes Brushfire Fairytales a decent record. He's not noisy or gregarious. He's content with his new creative finding. He might chase waves in his other life, but his songwriting ways do make for something quite charming.

For anyone wanting to purchase the Barnes and Noble Exclusive edition, please note that the website has it listed as Blue Vinyl, but it is regular black vinyl. It does come with the exclusive 7" Live, but neither are colored vinyl.

This is just the beginning for Jack. I have not met one person who does not like this disc. Bushfire Fairytales will go down as one of those classic discs which will be played for years to come.

I just love this cd, Jack Johnson will go far. I love his voice and can't get enough. It's definitely what to listen to on your lazy Sunday. Flake is one great single.

Jack Johnson has demonstrated that there are new directions in folk music that have yet to be discovered. That is until now. Jack's brand of funky folk with a groove is entrancing, whether played in the foreground or as background music. The album is very catchy and singable - you will find yourself belting out the tunes right along with Jack if you give the album a chance. Superb first effort and, if this album is any indication, many great things ahead!

i have enjoyed making the song called flake and that is probably one of the best songs on the cd but if you have not bought my album ON AN ON well it is a very sofisticated cd

What we have all wanted to say is finally what we can hear. Jack Johnson is an amazing musician who, quite possibly is the best of his generation. Although some of his original work has been transformed by the producer, the continuity of his songs are still not lost. I advise everyone to get this C.D. and listen to the song ''posters''.

I was introduced to Jack's sounds by my daughter and have been hooked ever since. I love the accoustic sound, great tracks include Flake, Bubble Toes, Fortunate Fool, and The News. His second CD, On and On is a must to have also.

I had an appointment one morning at 8:30 AM that lasted for 1 hour. On my way home I FOUND a burned copy of Jack Johnson's Brushfire Fairytales! It was raining that morning so the CD was leave-covered and wet. When I brought it home I promptly rinsed it off and dried it. I was pleased to find out that it still worked!

You know how sometimes you buy an album because of a song you hear on the radio..(like Flake) and it may very well be that's the only good song on the album? Or you may get lucky and get a few good songs. Or maybe they are all good songs but you just get sick of hearing that album? Not with Jack Johnson's Brushfire Fairytales. I actually bought the album before even hearing Flake on the radio. I was so impressed by his lyrics, his vocals, and I guess overall talent. The album starts out good and only gets better with each song. Check out Posters which is one of my favorites and of course Flake which is fabulous.

Heya, just wanted to show how much i appreciate the amazing melodies that come out of my cd player when this cd is in it. i heard of this guy on bluetorch tv, and went to 17 different music stores, none of which carries him on the east coast. i had to get it online, cost me twice as much, but this cd is well worth it. gotta get it. smooth, mellow, makes ya feel all warm and tingly, ya know?

This is honestly the most amazing album in the world. Well I mean theres Ben Harper and then this album...but I mean it comes close considering Ben Harper is actually on this album. But may i just state for the record, that before discovering Jack Johnson i thought i was in love....but now i truly am. what can i say-I have a thing for musicians who are just your average JOE or John?!?! PLease buy this CD- and I cross my heart that its incredibly mellow and inspiring!

If I were on Survivor, this would be my one luxury item.

I discovered jack, like so many others, by coincidence. I heard it once and not since Zeppelin 1 have I instantly loved every song on an album. I listened all summer, and still love it. If I were a musician (at least a talented one) this is the music I'd play. Jack's playing it for me...It's like he gave a voice to the artist trapped inside my talentless body. No pomp, no ego, just soul.

Brushfire Fairytales, is most surely one piece of art work, his melodic use of harmonics, is just extraordinary. It seems Jack has something most dont have and thats originality!!!

If you dig music that makes you feel like your toes should be in the sand, you'll enjoy this album. While it's not as strong as the follow up "On and On", it's an enjoyable disc that will garner repeat plays in your cd player.

This is the best CD I've bought in years. The catchy lyrics and toe tapping tunes are addictive. I find myself listening to it in the car and taking along my Walkman to listen to his CD on the way to class... Great Buy! Music can also be heard in the new snowboarding movie, OUT COLD. (with Jason London) BUY THIS CD!!!!!!
