Overview

Bubba Snoddy’s got some problems. His family has descended for the Christmas holidays and not in a good way. His cousin wants to own the Snoddy Mansion, decrepit, falling down columns, termites, wood rot and all and isn’t above using manipulative behavior to achieve his ends. Miz Demetrice is up to nefarious and illegal activities while trying to entertain relatives. His cousin’s ten year old son is the personification of a demon and has hobbies of looking at medical photographs, making stun guns from scratch, and causing havoc wherever he roams. The woman of Bubba’s dreams, Deputy Willodean Gray, is still evading his romantic pursuits. Patients from the local mental institute are wandering over the town, ostensibly assisting with the Christmas Festival thanks to a program established by the mayor to cut costs. And Bubba has just found the dead body of a man dressed as Santa in the Christmas scene at City Hall. Oh, Pegramville, Texas is just the best place to be at Christmas if a fella has a bullet proof vest and a linebacker’s helmet. All the folks think Bubba might have done did it…again, even though it was proven that he didn’t done did it the first time, and Bubba has to move quickly in order to catch a murderer.

Book 2 of the Bubba series.

Funny characters with mystery thrown in

I love this character. He is kind of a male Stephanie Plum

    Just ok!

Kind of a let down after reading Bubba and the Dead Woman. Yes, it was quite humorous at times, but it seemed to drag on in other places. Even though Ms. Bevill apologizes about the ending, I'm not quite sure I want to give the third one a chance just to find out what happens. Oh yeah, please put put the Thesaurus away, I've lived in east Texas and alot of people just don't speak that way. I shouldn't have to keep looking up words just to understand what was happening.

    Hey folks,

Ms. Bevill has provided another great story with several characters I am happy to "see" again. Yes, it is the same Bubba stepping into the same kind of cow paddy as in the first Bubba book, but this is a new cow paddy, and we do get to see how Bubba fixes everything. Hey, if I can enjoy reading how Kinsey Milhone goes from one cow paddy to the next with each of Ms. Grafton's books, I guess I can enjoy Bubba's adventures.

Like the first Bubba book, this is not exactly a nail biter for suspense. It is not about suspense, however, it really is about the laughs you have as you turn the pages and follow Bubba along the way.

My one "disappointment" is the author's ending the story with a little bit of a cliff hanger. Now, I really hate cliff hangers, but this "little" hanger is really not that much of one. Also, at the end of the story, Ms. Bevill explains why she did her little bit of a cliff hanger. She freely admits she would like to make a little bit of money for her efforts. The first Bubba novel was and still is completely free - a gift to all readers. Sure she was hoping we readers would like it and perhaps purchase the current book, but there is nothing wrong with that. At 99 cents for the current book, it is a bargain. I have also purchased the next Bubba novel and a few other she has for sale at 99 cents, and I think Ms. Bevill's books have been a real bargain for my reading enjoyment.

    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

The two Bubba books I've read so far are on a very short list of books that have made me actually laugh out loud! I will admit the use of "iffin" is a bit weird but I can overlook that to continue reading this author's amazingly spot-on sense of timing with something totally unexpected.
There is one thing that made me shake my head every time I read it and that was any reference to Hurricane Katrina. I live 8 miles from the east Texas border and Katrina didn't touch us here. It was Hurricane Rita just weeks after Katrina that cause all our damage.
Minor? Yes.. but worth an edit, IMO.
Still... Katrina or Rita, I'll continue to read any Bubba book that comes out and look forward to the next one.
They are a delight to read.
