Editorial Reviews

According to the liner notes, Buddah was the originator and prime purveyor of the sticky stuff -- an askew incarnation of Brill Building pop, if you will -- during the music's limited three-year run. The Brill connection is substantiated here with tracks penned by staff/alumni Neil Diamond (the Monkees' "I'm a Believer") and Jeff Barry (Bobby Bloom's "Montego Bay"), not to mention a slew of touches originally espoused by the likes of Carole King and Burt Bacharach in the early '60s. And along the way, there are a few more hits (Tommy James & the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now"), some TV (the Brady Kids), a bit of soul (the Prophets' "Playgirl"), and loads of Farfisa organ. While not likely to be the subject of any academic debate, these 20 tracks of head-bobbing fun will make the perfect soundtrack for your next pajama party.
