Overview

Buckminster Fuller, the brilliant and eccentric futurist philosopher best known as the inventor of the Geodesic Dome, was one of the most creative contributors to innovative thought and technology in the twentieth century. Incomparable designer, engineer, and architect, he proved that a lone genius, through sheer initiative, can have an astounding impact on the world. In this inspiring account of Fuller's life and legacy, Lloyd Steven Sieden brings new light to Fuller's belief system and recognizes his many contributions to humanity.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Inventor of the geodesic dome and the phrase ``spaceship earth,'' Fuller reportedly once had an out-of-body experience in which a voice told him: ``You do not belong to you. You belong to the Universe.'' The cocky, self-assured architect-engineer-poet-futurist, expelled twice from Harvard, who went on to shake the world with his technological innovations and vision of global unity, is brought down to earth in this absorbing biographical study. A lecturer-consultant specializing in Fuller's philosophy, Sieden here attempts to translate Fuller's ideas from the tech-guru's convoluted, jargon-laden style into accessible language. Though many of Fuller's major projects were commercial failures, Sieden succeeds in demonstrating how his search for Nature's underlying rules of harmony and efficiency is relevant to fields ranging from aviation and manufacturing technology to environmentalism, housing, parapsychology and extraterrestrial anthropology. A sympathetic, even advocatory, account of the life and work of the designer, engineer, and architect, interpreting his creations as visible models of his philosophy. Well illustrated, including diagrams showing the principles of his designs. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

    Buckminster Fuller's Universe: An Appreciation

This is one of the greatest books I've ever had the pleasure to read. Lloyd Steven Sieden has written a remarkably simple book about such a complex subject. I have gained a deeper understanding of Bucky's motives and principles that no other Fuller book has. I am looking forward to world which embraces his philosophy!

    Buckminster Fuller's Universe: An Appreciation

An excellent book that reveals much of the enigmatic Mr. Fuller. This book makes the 'experiment' that was Buckminster Fuller's life easy to grasp. I enjoyed learning so many things about perhaps the most visionary human of the modern era.

    Buckminster Fuller's Universe: An Appreciation

Buckminster Fuller is one of the most expansive and insightful humans of all time. His life became his message to humanity. He offered profound solutions to many of today's issues. Many of Bucky's ideas were quite scientifically complex and therein lies the beauty of Lloyd Sieden's masterful work 'Buckminister Fuller's Universe' which provides a bridge into this intricate world of a mastermind. This book provides a model for what one person can do through conscious contribution to Family Earth.

    Buckminster Fuller's Universe: An Appreciation

Lloyd Sieden has delivered to us a way to get to know 'Bucky.' You will get to know the life, theories and motivation for one on the most significant people in history. 'Buckminster Fuller's Universe' is a philosophical/biographical journey that is as readable as those many novels we've devoured on the beach. I can't believe it hasn't been made into a movie. I was originally introduced to R. Buckminster Fuller by reading 'Critical Path.' This would have been a much better first step.
