Children's LiteratureGetting Gramps out of the house should not be too hard. Maybe he would like a class: All You Need to Know About Keeping a Goat, The History of Cheese, Looking After Your Toenails. Sunny tries all of these ideas and more to keep Gramps, the self-proclaimed fastest granddad in the Wild West, from ruining his day with friends. It doesn't take Gramps too long, though, to figure out that Sunny is embarrassed by his antics. Try as Sonny may to keep his friends from seeing his Gramps, its Buffalo Bert, the fastest Grandad in the wild west who saves the day with a backyard barbeque and treats. This "Read-it! Chapter Book" is written at a third grade, readability level and offers a variety of sentence structures and punctuation. It also requires the reader to put him/herself in Sonny's shoes as he works out his feeling for his Gramps. This text offers the classroom teacher an excellent source for extended reading opportunities to reinforce comprehension, teach decoding skills, and create a bridge for student compositions dealing with their own feelings of embarrassment. 2006, Picture Window Books, Ages 7 up.
