Overview

With this album, Jimmy Buffett debuts his own label, Mailboat Records, and finally becomes his own boss -- befitting for a man who's made his fortune living out the fantasies of every working stiff who's ever dreamed of a beach-bum early retirement. Still, Buffett is a regular working guy -- albeit one with a darn good job -- and he continues to tour regularly, plying songs that ride on smooth melodies, quick humor, and images of boats, beaches, and bars (to paraphrase the title of his 1992 box set). This album documents Buffett's 1999 tour performances of hits like "Fruitcakes," "Come Monday," and "Cheeseburger in Paradise," for starters, then offers a new song -- Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Southern Cross" -- for veteran Parrotheads to enjoy, along with the infamous "lost verse" from "Margaritaville," JB's biggest hit. And, for still another treat, BUFFETT LIVE is an enhanced CD featuring backstage and concert footage hosted by Jimmy's daughter, Savannah, giving longtime fans a reason to get to the office…so they can boot up, nice and early. --Peter Rutter

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Paul Tinelli
Although Jimmy Buffet has never enjoyed tremendous record sales throughout his career, his concerts are always guaranteed sellouts. Buffett's rabidly loyal, often drunken, fun-seeking fan base, the parrotheads, are in no small way responsible for this fact. Buffett Live: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays tries to capture the essence of a live Buffett concert from the late '90s. This live set gives fans a handful of '90s Buffett tracks as well as many classics that have become staples of his live shows. Listening to tracks like "Fruitcakes," "Coconut Telegraph," and the fan favorite "Fins" (complete with Jaws theme music) you can't help but feel Buffett has brought the crowd to a place where they are having a great time and no one has a care in the world. This is a goal Buffett has always tried to provide for his fans, and he has almost always succeeded. Some of the strongest tracks presented here are "Trying to Reason with the Hurricane Season" and a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Southern Cross," which features gorgeous backing vocals provided by members of Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. Parrotheads who may feel they have heard most of these tracks on earlier live releases will be happy to hear "Margaritaville" -- complete with the lost verse -- and every longtime fan will love hearing Buffett dusting off the obscure classic "Tin Cup Chalice." This collection is a nice addition to the collection of a casual fan who already owns and enjoys Buffett's classic Songs You Know by Heart. Buffett's music may not change the world, but it certainly makes it more fun and for a sun-drenched, alcohol-soaked good time you still can't beat Jimmy Buffett.

Let's face it: Buffett is a concert performer, and this album really conveys that concert feel when you crank up the volume. If you like other live albums like Feeding Frenzy, you'll love this one.

Just as good as any other Buffett album. The songs are great and so is The Jimster himself. He's a cool guy I met him once. Anyways buy the album. It rules, Rock on Jimmy.

As a true and dedicated parrothead, I wouldn't want to sell Bubba short or insult his many talents in music and/or sheer entertainment. However, I was truly dissappointed in the quality of the songs in this work. It seemed that he wasn't all that interested in picking the finer selections, only to put together an album that would be out in time for X-mas. Many of the tracks have promise, but the vocals seem to fade out and all you hear is noise from the crowd, and/or from the background vocalists. It is sadly a reflection of the attitude that the title suggests (just paying the bills). It is in no way the masterpiece that Feeding Frenzy surely was. two redeeming tracks are the CSN cover

The music on this CD is classic Buffett. Southern Cross and Brown Eyed Girl were wonderful additions to this album. If you are a Buffett fan, you will enjoy this music. However, the CD contains an enhanced video that you can watch on your computer. It is hosted by Savannah Jane Buffett, daughter of Jimmy and Jane Buffett. This is very interesting, except that the enhanced video is difficult to pull up, and the picture is not very clear. Perhaps this is just a problem with my copy of the CD. IF YOU LIKE BUFFETT, YOU WILL ENJOY THIS MUSIC! Do yourself a favor and purchase this one!

T, Th, and Sat. is by far the best of Jimmy's compilation projects, unless you build your own on CD-R of course! Contains well mixed live performances, enough of the classics, and great ''not-so-well-known-but-should-be-songs-you-know-by-heart'' tunes such as tin cup chalice and tryin to reason with hurricane season. If you only own 1 Buffett album (which would be a shame), this should be the one.
