My favorite of Season 8 so far

Likely my favorite volume of Buffy so far, Book Three starts off with Buffy finding out about the major plot from the last volume, the lingering number of Slayers who have escaped her tutelage and have become something other than the first line of defense against evil.
But before Buffy and the gang have time to assess this new threat their castle is attacked by a group of vampires, unlike any other, who can shape shift to mist, and wolves and bats. They're after the Slayer's Ultimate Weapon and when they get it Buffy and the Slayers and Scoobies have to go on a quest to get it back before something really bad happens.
Joining them in their quest is the immortal, and bored, Dracula, whose powers the vampires used to get past the Slayers in the first place. What results is a hilarious, offensive, dark romp through the Buffy-verse that could rival the infamous Puppet Cancer episode of Angel.
This plot is a side aspect of the overall arc for this "season" but the events and character building in this volume is no less important to the texture and depth of the world itself. This is how one entertains and creates a complex, vivid world with a scope every bit as varied as our own.

    Memorable for many reasons!!!!

While many will remember this trade for what and who Buffy does, the humor and action that was always present on the show is at its highest in this trade, moreso than the previous three. The art was great and the dialogue was classic Buffy! Great stuff!

    Alive and Kicking

There is really something amazing at work, when a graphic novel inspired by a pulp-television drama can inspire the reader to feel as though they are watching the lost season as it was meant to be seen. This is essentially what Lucas wanted to the old Star Wars Trilogy when he went to refinish them, only in the case of Buffy Season 8, ALMOST EVERYTHING is WORKING here... the characters all speak with dialogue that rings true to their small screen persona's. I often laugh out loud--and that has everything to do with the fact that the audience is manufacturing the perfect Xander, Willow or Buffy delivery from the pieces of existing performances. Essentially, the book is only as good as your love for the series. The writers play to past knowledge of the Buffy Universe, as they should. There are cameos, fan-nuggets, the influence of a more adult, matured sensibility, especially as the audience realizes that the characters are all grown now. If I have one complaint it would be that--while the writers are definitely having a blast-- the season doesn't have as coherent a thru-story, or foundation, as previous seasons did. Why should I care about Twilight? What has he/she done to terrify me? After the disappointing seventh season, I was hoping for a little closure with the First. To keep my attention, there has to be even more serious and relevant issues for our characters to resolve. I hope the future installments will deliver that... OTHERWISE... these books are a blast to read.

    Nice read

Its an ok chapter for the Buffy series. The appearance of Dracula again makes it a bit more interesting.

    I Also Recommend:

    Well...

Like all Buffy fans I was thrilled to hear that our beloved characters would be continuing on in comic form, with these Season Eight comics. Has it been all I would have liked? I can't say that it has, and this collection sort of shows what I still love about this series, and some problems I have. My main problem witnessed in this collection was the decision to have Buffy sleep with a girl. I would not have cared if she had fallen in love with a girl, but instead I can't help but feel that it was added only for a bit of sex factor... I love the Buffy show for relationships, not to see our main character jump into bed with everyone. It seemed a poor choice.
Now the inclusion of Dracula in this though was inspired, and a brilliant choice to flesh this character out. His visit to the show in season 5 may not have been the best (granted it gave us some hilarious Xander moments...) but here he shines. It's always great to see these demons fleshed out, something other than enemy of the day, dusted before they speak. And to go with Dracula, Xander also really shines in this comic book outing.
I pretty much like the comics so far... So All buffy fans should pick these collections up. Now here's hoping that they might in the future deal with publisher/legal issues and do that Angel crossover everyone wants and needs to see. I think the Angel/Buffy/Spike thing needs a little closure.
