Overview

If you're a fan of good sci-fi television, you need to thank Jane Espenson. From Buffy to Battlestar Galatica, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to Torchwood, Warehouse 13 to Dollhouse - Espenson has been involved in them all. In addition to all of her television work, Espenson penned the recent Buffy Season 8 story-arc titled 'Retreat' and the brand-new one shot Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Riley. Taking time out of her demanding writing schedule, Espenson answered a few questions exclusively for Dark Horse Comics Facebook fans.

Having worked on some of television's greatest sci-fi shows, do you have a single favorite episode?

An ep that I wrote? Because if it's about any single ep by anyone, you've probably got to go with Joss's 'Once More With Feeling', the Buffy musical episode. If it's one of mine? I don't have an absolute fave, but I'm very fond of the Buffy episodes 'Superstar' and 'Storyteller' and 'Pangs'. The BSG episode 'The Hub' turned out very well -- thank you Mary McDonnell and James Callis for that one.

If you were to be trapped in the world of one of the show's you've written for, which show would you choose?

Hmm... I like this question. Maybe Gilmore Girls? It's pretty safe there. No space explosions or demons. The only thing wicked was the wit. But cold. Hm. Ellen? It was safe and in a warm climate and funny.

What's been your favorite part of Buffy Season 8, and how do you hope it will end?

I really enjoyed the whole Dawn arc -- Giant! Centaur! Doll! And I loved the way the season brought our team back together again in interesting ways. I really liked being able to give Oz a home and family. I hope it ends with Buffy in a good emotional place.

What made you want to write a Riley one-shot, and would you want to do more for other Buffy characters?

I was asked to write the one-shot, and I was pleased to do it. Riley is from Iowa, like me, and I drew a teeny bit on that history. I would love to take on other characters. What's Warren's skinless POV on this whole thing?

If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I would like to be Captain Undo, with the power to execute rewinds (of varying lengths) so that I can correct my blunders and social fumbles.

    can't get enough

    It was so hard to put down and I wasn't ready when it ended. I can't wait for the next one!

    Wow

    This is certainly one of my favorites so far of the series.Georges outdoes himself on pencils.The whole artist crew needs some props for this one. The writting is like you would expect from Whendon and Espenson witty,entertaining,and fantastic. The book certainly shifts its gears back home to the core four as they prepare to bring the season to a close. The ending is not expected and it will leave you jonsing for the next volume,Twilight, with Brad Meltzer at the helm. My only qualm with the book is that they are soon over after such a long wait,patience is truly a virtue, but thats my problem certainly not effecting this five star gold
