Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"A not-to-miss title." - The Field Guide to Parenting
Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
This sourcebook on bugs will be a welcome delight for elementary teachers, both in the public arena and the private. Simple activities are presented in a theme format for all curriculums. Each activity also includes a song that children can be taught that presents the facts they need to remember about the lesson. Music is included on an audio CD in the back of the book. Each lesson includes vocabulary words, the song, curriculum connections for science, language, writing and music, and movement. A home assignment is included at the end of each lesson. Supplemental pages offer cards to teach sequence, rhyming, and sign language for some vocabulary. References, a bibliography, a theme index, and a general index are included. Also of special interest is the "Children's Book Index," which indexes all of the book titles recommended for each theme. For instance, the lesson on spiders recommends the use of Miss Spider's Tea Party, and the lesson on mosquitoes recommends the use of Can I keep Him? by Stephen Kellogg. This is a valued resource for every elementary classroom teacher. If cataloged for the professional collection, it may be difficult to keep it in the Media Center.
