Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Bugs of all types are described in this nonfiction Beginners series designed for children who are beginning to read on their own. The book is filled with interesting facts about bugs along with large photographs and illustrations. Several parts give step-by-step illustrations and text, on topics such as how baby bugs hatch from eggs and how caterpillars become butterflies. The photographs show fine details and are accompanied by explanatory drawings. Children will be intrigued with facts about Love Bugs, Bad Bugs, and bugs In Disguise. The book includes a table of contents, a glossary of bug words with illustrations, websites to visit, and an index. Some of the vocabulary, such as exoskeleton, nymphs, vinegaroon, and massive, would likely be difficult for children who are beginning to read on their own, but the contents should have much appeal for young children.
