Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The title says it all—this is a bilingual counting book in English and Spanish—but the illustrator is pretty well known, having won the Caldecott Medal for Smoky Night. The book is almost round like a tortilla, which is where the creation of this tasty burrito starts. One tortilla, two scoops of rice, three spoonfuls of beans and so on. As we move through the ingredients, the pages grow a bit smaller and smaller. As we get to the eight olives and nine chucks of cheese, they are really small. Then the tortilla is folded by ten fingers, which makes it ready for "one big bite/ ¡y un bocado grande!" The ingredients are colorful and the final scene of the burrito on a fancy plate should make any mouth water. Kids can enjoy the book and perhaps help prepare tortillas in their own kitchens.
