A friend gave me this book. I've been interested in prepping for quite some time but never quite knew where or how to get started. I did some research on-line but was a little overwhelmed. This book is the perfect 1st step for me. Creek outlines everything is a very easy to understand (and not overwhelming) way. And the good thing is that there are lots of photos - both of the gear and supplies as well as the items in action. My favorite part is his use and illustration of multi-functional products - I never knew a plain garbage bag could be used so many different ways for survival - or a TAMPON! Highly recommended!

Perfect Guide for the Beginner, Decent Checklists for the Pro I'll start by saying that most of the information contained in this book is readily available for free on the internet. What this book does is take that information and puts it into easy to follow categories and serves as a great resource & reference for the beginner prepper. Just the sheer amount of preparedness websites, blogs, articles, checklists, and retailers on the web will quickly discourage people from getting prepared for emergencies. I recommend this book because it distills down the most important elements, makes it easy to follow along, and provides some wise advice via many anecdotal experiences from the author. There's many similarities between preparing a "Bug out Bag" and an Emergency Kit for your home. With a few differences in the type of food, clothing, and container they have pretty much the same contents. For a novice this guide will get you to where you need to be in terms of preparedness for yourself and your family. If your the Ron Poppel type of person your probably not going to need this book because you'll buy a premade bag and "Set it & Forget it!". But if the safety and well-being of yourself and your family is of greater importance to you then start out with this book and learn what's important to have, why it's important, and above all, how to use it in an emergency. As I said earlier, most of this information can be found readily available scattered around on the web and I think it is definitely worth the time and effort to go out and get it, but, if you find it as intimidating as I did to ask the question, "Well, what do I do to get prepared?" and see all that information to go through, then you will be grateful that this author has taken the time to do most of the work for you.

I had heard and read alot about this book and just finished it on my Nook. I was not disappointed. The autor, Creek Stewart is a very intelligent, positive force in all that he does. I would rate Creek as one of the top 10 outdoorsman, period. Yes, we're talking Les Stroud and Cody Lundeen good. Creek has a style that pulls you in and holds you as he shows you in this book. No BS, no puffery, just all the information you need in a concise format and as far as I could see he left nothing out. With great visual aids on each topic and no it's my way or the highway attitude. A great book, with great information. Bravo Creek!

Gret book , its a great resource for anyone interested in anything to do with the outdoors or prepping. I am in the process off putting a bag together and have read a lot on the subject. I wish I had found this book first as it is the best resource I have found.
