Having struggled with weight and self esteem issues most of my life, I was a bit apprehensive in diving into another book which would point the blame at me. This book however has changed my life in so many ways. Vincent Cocilovo writes in a way that makes you feel like this book was written for you, that he is sitting in a room with you telling you what needs to be done. So many other books out there are so intimidating in their text, they scare you with statistics, gross you out with a meal plan and just plainly make you feel like you will never lose weight. Not this book. This book completely changed my attitude about feeling good about myself. It made me realize that I could accomplish anything once I learn to love myself ( a task which seems hard, but within the first chapter you realize that it is possible.) With "Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow" the reader is shown a different perspective, and instead of crying out of humility and embarassment, I was crying out of satisfaction and I felt like a new person. At last! Someone shows what being fit and weight loss is about! It's not just about how many calories you need to burn in a day- it's about the mental aspect and this book clearly exemplifies that. Whenever I am feeling down or frustrated, I reread Cocolivo's book. This book also makes me feel like I am not alone. When you deal with self esteem issues you think that no one else is going through the same thing but after reading this book I realize that is not the case. Cocilovo writes this book in such a way that he makes it seem as though he truly understands. If a complete stranger can tell me to love myself, then why can't I love myself? After reading this book, I do! It has gotten me on the right track and has made such a difference in my life. I will always keep this book close to me because sometimes you just need that extra motivation which Vincent Cocilovo truly delivers.

Before buying based on the title like I did, ask yourself if this would work for you: "Love is a powerful thing...You are Life, Life is Love, You are love, and thus You are 'a powerful thing'...." For me, that's just silliness dressed as logic, and it has nothing to do with motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle.

For so long, every book in the fitness section covered "what to eat" or "what exericses to do". This is one of the first books that goes "outside of the box". And, as a professional fitness trainer, I think it is about time we have a book like this. Look, there are so many overweight and obese people out there who have tried the books that tell them what to eat and how to exercise. Yet, we keep reading that our population is getting more and more overweight/out of shape. That is EXACTLY why Mr. Cocilovo's message of self-love is important. When my clients feel good about themselves, they exercise more, they diet more diligently. THAT is a fact. Plus, every chapter of this book has a different message. SO, pick this up, and read the ENTIRE book. You will be better off for doing so. This book is a keeper in my house, and in my gym- that is the real deal!

I am a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I became interested in fitness because I was overweight for much of my childhood, teen years, and early adult life. I tried all the diets and exercise fads. In the end, I never found lasting success--mostly because I looked at myself as "fat" and "out of shape" and, after everytime I fell "off the wagon" from a diet, I became annoyed and angry with myself. Mr. Cocilovo's book is so refreshing, and so empowering. I wish I had it 10 years ago. I would have become much happier with myself, with my body, in a quicker timeframe. Ever since I read this book, I have personally recommended it to all of my clients who are having challenges losing weight or who are newly trying to change their bodies. I can't comment on why their are negative reviews on here. But, I know, as a fitness professional, and former overweight person, I think "Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow" has MANY gems and jewels which can help people try dieting and exercise from a positive mindset and not one that is negative.

While this book focuses on fitness, it could easily be extrapolated to life in general. The central premise is that the mind is the battleground for any self improvement. Mr. Cocilovo shows, with carefully considered examples, practical steps to win the battle.

The book is short; chapters have summary points at the end; guidelines are straight-forward and direct.

Understanding and embracing this book's philosophy are truly critical to self-improvement.

You could use the info in this book with any aspect of your life. It teaches you to love yourself as who you are. It teaches that you can do anything you put your mind to if you believe in yourself. It is a quick read and one that you may like to review time and time again............

This book has alot of great tidbits and advice! I, as a fitness author, decided to pick up a copy and see what this was all about. Afterall, a trainer at my gym was raving about "Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow". So, I ordered a copy. This is a breath of fresh air for the fitness industry!! Mr. Cocilovo doesn't try to tell you what to eat or what exercises to do. He leaves that to other authors, like me. However, he addresses what EVERYONE should address...the inner motivational factor that either helps or hinders each and every one of us. So, pick up a copy if you truly want to get yourself on the path to success in fitness and body.

I must say, this book put alot of things into perspective. It was very informative and will help me along the way. It made me realize, I can do whatever as long as I build my mind. Very motivating. I'm looking forward to his next book.

This book was an eye opener for me. While I was always so focused on getting back to my weight of my early 20's, this book helped me to realize to look to my future success, and how to help me plan for it. I use these same key factors to help me succeed in business, but never once thought to use the factors to help me with health and fitness.

I am a fitness professional, and thus always keep up on my reading, for the benefits of my clients. After reading this book, I started to rethink my motivational approach for both my male and female clients. Were they really ready to lose that weight or stick to a program when they started training with me? Well, I can tell you after implementing the mental-preparation aspect of fitness, my clients have benefitted TREMENDOUSLY! AND THEY ATTAINED BETTER RESULTS!!! It isn't always about what to eat or how many repetitions to do (so many books talk about THAT). It IS about being in positive state of mind to when you start (and continue) a fitness/diet regimen. I HIGHLY recommend this book!! Trust me...you will be much better AND Happier with yourself and your progress after reading it!

Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow has helped me get ready for the summer! When I first bought the book in January I didn't know what to expect. Was this going to be like all the other books in previous years? NOPE! Before I read Build Your Mind, I wasn't exercising or dieting for the right reasons. I wanted to lose weight but it was without proper understanding and the wrong motivation. Now I've been bikini ready for a month and have STILL kept the weight off. I can't wait for summer to start! You need to buy Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow!

this is great for anyone who has gone off track on working out. I would recommend it to my clients ( I am a personal trainer/yoga teacher) It will get you off the chair and working out to better health.

I picked this book up, because I have been in a mental 'rutt'. Each year I resolve to lose weight, and each year I do---for about a month. Then I gain it back and then some. I read this book, and changed the way that I thought about myself, and about planning...and it has been a GREAT change! I am smiling, happy, and taking weight off slowly but surely!

When I think of all the money I have spent on diet books, supplements, exercise DVD's and gym memberships, only to fail each and every time I want to cry. Every time I started something new and failed it was another blow to my already low self-esteem. I stumbled upon Vincent's blog this past summer and I've been putting what he says to good use. I never in a million years would have thought that if I changed the way I was thinking (see July 2011 note on blog) that I would see success where I had failed so many times previously. I have lost 20 pounds and I don't plan on finding them again!

Great motivating book. The body can't be right without the mind being right to begin with. I was able to get focused in a positive direction using these points. I would highly recommend this book if you need a new perspective on fitness.

Build you Mind, Your Body will follow, is an absolute must read for those people seeking fitness success!! This is not your typical diet and exercise book - - in fact, this book does not mention specific foods to eat or give you sample workouts to follow. Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow, will help the "average Joe's mentally and emotionally prepare for what lies ahead of them when they decide they want to "lose weight, get in shape, tone down, build muscle". We need to fully understand why we want to achieve these goals and the best way to achieve them - - through self understanding, self love, honestly and preparation. As a certified personal trainer, I have recommended this book to my clients and it has been highly motivating to them. My clients have seen great results and I feel their success co-insides with the personal knowledge they have gained from reading the book along with a proper exercise regime and food intake. Looking forward to book # 2!

Being a fitness instructor, I've understood the concepts of visualization and mental strength and their roles in fitness training. But, the author challenged me (and continues to challenge me as I re-read his theories) to take my thoughts a step deeper. Cocilovo has taken me just outside my comfort zone to reveal old thought processes that have hindered me from reaching well beyond what I thought my potential was. At the same time, he's given me every reason to accept and love myself more. I never knew growth- personal and physical- could be achieved in this manner. I am proud and confident to use these theories with my clients.

This is, by far, one of the easiest books to read, with one of THE most impactful messages found in each chapter! The other reviewers are correct--and I am glad that I happened across this book. It is one of the BEST books I have read in a long time. Each chapter has its own message, but they build upon one another as well. Again, Great is an understatement for this title!!

Sounds like these 5 Star reviews are all written by the Author or someone really trying to push this book. A friend of mine read it and said it was extremely boring. And what's with the pre-teens on the cover? Is he the one who wrote it?

Great! One word says it all! I ordered this book in the summer, read it the first time in about a week, and have consistently referred back to it for easy reminders! I was one of those people who kept trying the newest "it" diets. I bought so many different diet and exercise books that I think I could stock my own section of Barnes & Noble! Yet, I never found the long-lasting results that I sought. Then I read, "Build Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow"...and things started to change. Mr. Cocilovo doesn't give diet or exercise advice. He gives advice on how to mentally get it in gear...and I did, and now I am healthier, slimmer, and HAPPIER than I have ever been! Read this with an open mind...if you are like me...you have tried many other diets and are still not at the point you want to be...so what do you have to lose?! Thank you Mr. Cocilovo...THANK YOU!

This is the first review I have written for a book. So, that in and of itself should tell you something...THIS book is AMAZING! I purchased it about 2 months ago, because I was tired of always trying the next great diet, or joining a gym and then finding every reason not to consistently get there. I didn't want to be another statistic like so many others who can't seem to lose and keep weight off and get into shape! Mr. Cocilovo takes a totally different look at what we need to do BEFORE we start on a diet or walk into a gym! It is GREAT! I read the book in about a week (would've been faster but I have work, 2 kids, and family responsibilities). But, it is a very easy read, and WOW...so powerful! So, after reading the book, I reflected for a couple of days, and since then....I have been in the gym alot more, I have chosen to eat healthier, and even better...I FEEL GREAT ABOUT MYSELF! Oh, and I have lost 9 pounds in just over a month. Nothing crazy, but it is progress that will just keep coming, because I CHOOSE to be healthy! Thank you Mr. Cocilovo. And, now I am going to give this book to 5 of my friends as holiday gifts. I can't recommend this book enough!

I had the opportunity to read this book on vacation. The subject matter keeps you moving forward in anticipation of what is to follow in the subsequent chapters. I liked the philosophy chapter setting off the tone of the book. I will recommend to my patients.

When I first picked up this book I was skeptical about the approach, but after reading it and feeling improvement - I am a believer! I found this book both encouraging and uplifting. I was empowered after putting together my personal fitness plan and achieving my goals. Although I am physically challenged, it helped me to regain strength and mobility in my leg after following the exercise regimen. This book was so helpful that I've purchased it for two of my friends.

I read this stuff all the time. If it mentions exercise, food or losing weight, you can bet that I have read it. But this is not like the other books that I have read. Instead of focusing on an actual diet or exercise routine, it brings out that you need to find the motivation inside to make yourself the best you can be...and then your body will follow. To my surprise, I found myself learning more about how I think and act and could not put this book down. A particularly poignant message was the concept of how we all tend to do things to please others -- but what happens when those people leave? Who is left with the results? It is a quick read, and well worth it.
