Meet the Author

Gail Damerow and her husband operate a family farm in Tennessee, where they keep poultry and dairy goats, tend a sizable garden, and maintain a small orchard. They grow and preserve much of their own food, make their own yogurt and ice cream from fresh goat milk, and bake their own bread. Damerow has written extensively on raising chickens and other livestock, growing fruits and vegetables, and related rural skills. She shares her experience and knowledge as a regular contributor to Backyard Poultry magazine and as the author or contributor to more than a dozen country skills how-to books.

This is an excerpt of another book

I bought this pamphlet thinking it contained plans for chicken coops you could build. It is not. In fact, it is an excerpt from Gail Damerow's excellent book 'A Guide to Raising Chickens', which I already had. Don't buy the pamphlet, just buy the book! B&N should have mentioned this relationship.

    Another great country wisdom bulletin

What I like the best about Storey's Country Wisdom Bulletin is that they are item specific. The author, Gail Damerow, has written several books about raising farm animals. She has been published in many periodicals, including Acres U.S.A., Backyard Poultry, and Dairy Goat Jounal as well. In Building Chicken Coops, Ms. Damerow goes on to share twelve tips for a successful coop design. Contents include, but are not limited to, space requirements, providing adequate ventilation, temperature control, flooring, installing roosts, nests and nest boxes, feeders, water source, fencing and more. Illustrated step-by-step instructions.
