Overview

One of the leading popularizers of classical learning in the nineteenth century, Thomas Bulfinch made the myths and legends of the ancient and medieval world available to American audiences through his three decisive works, The Age of Fable, The Age of Chivalry, and Legends of Charlemagne, collectively published and widely known as Bulfinch’s Mythology. A banking clerk by day, Bulfinch spent his nights skillfully weaving often disparate versions of classical and medieval mythology into a coherent whole. The thoroughness with which he combed through his sources made his mythological books standard reference guides for many years, while the vigor of his storytelling enthralled generations of readers. Written to “teach mythology not as a study but as a relaxation from study,” these timeless volumes span the ages: The Age Of Fable describes the gods and goddesses of Greece and Rome, as well as the mythology of the Germanic tribes, England, and the Near East; The Age of Chivalry tells the story of King Arthur and his court, Lancelot and Guinevere, and the death of Arthur; and Legends of Charlemagne gives a thrilling account of the reign of the first great French emperor, his wars, and his conquests.

Beautiful cover and exquisite illustrations, The following stories are of great quality and translated into layman's terms very well. This books include common mythological stories as well as less known ones. The aforementioned art is worthy of a mural and the highest  artistic praise. Finally this book is an excellent shelf piece as well as a portable reading pleasure of mythologically astute.

Great addition to the leather bound series. Black and gold, gold on the page ends, gold ribbon marker. Sticker on the outer plastic proclaims 55 color illustrations. The three books that comprise this volume are listed on the back of the book in an elegant design. The book is very lovely. Good paper, a little slippery to the touch, not super thick but thick enough. The print is wide, wasting no space on margins, giving it a bit of a text book look. I've not yet read it, can't speak for typeos and format problems. Very pleased.

The cover of this book may not be as elaborate as the other books in this series but the contents are top-notch. Beautiful, full-page illustrations abound throughout the text which comprise the complete mythology. A great value for money!

If you love mythology then this is the book for you. The book material was more than what I expected!! I'm really glad I bought this book. The texture is really good and it comes sealed in a plastic wrap and it goes great on my book shelf. I highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone who is mythology fan and whoever is wanting to learn about it.

One of my favorite 'B&N classics'. There's excellent color illustrations from 'B&N Classics' frequents like Arthur Rackham and Gustav Dore, and a wealth of other artists from the Renaissance through to the 20th century.

Bought this for my fiance for X-mas. The book itself is beautiful. He loves all sorts of mythology, but had never heard of this collection. He hasn't begun to read it yet, but he is looking forward to it. I myself was surprised by the large amount of content, there are so many different stories in it!

Exceptional from the cover of rose and yellow gold foil embellishments which gives the helmet a regal feel while the back displays a sort of panel of bird of paradise on blocks befitting a kings palace proclaiming The Age of Fable The Age of Chivalry The Legends of Charlemagne like a passage to another time helping the reader imagine your there.12 swords proudly protect this lavishly embellished work of art which you will see upon your bookshelf.

Not bad overall. Picked up mainly due to interest, but also to help complete my collection. The way they make new editions and then suddenly discontinue them for no reason made me grab this one fast. It had a nice looks to it overall, but does not exactly fit the overall over-the-top designs that the others are usually known for. I am already familiar with one of this works as well, so this should be an interesting read.

the text is too small too read. the nook reader can't enlarge the page properly too read. your better off purchasing the book.
