I vacationed in Bulgaria for the first time in the summer of 2015 and traveled across the country from Sophia to Sozopol, and back to USA. Fortunately, my wife is from Bulgaria and did most of all of the translating, but I wanted to begin developing some fluency for myself, so I purchased this pocket translation... BEST INVESTMENT EVER. The reader need not understand Cyrillic because there is transliteration throughout (including accent marks!), but it is easy enough to learn quickly. The grammatical models simplified the language, syntax, and morphology enough for a first-timer to feel comfortable using the book and attempting to speak the language. While a phrase book is not the 'complete grammatical treatment' that I have in the college course books, the introductory simplified grammar charts clearly explain the verb forms in past present, and future , as well as how to handle basic conjugations, and declinations of nouns, pronouns, and adjectives. Not only does the book give these essentials, but it is also divided into 19 topical sections from introductions, directions and travel, banking, shopping, etc. I carried the book on me for the whole trip and used it continuously. I have been studying the book and will certainly bring it again next year!
