I started this book, and finished it in one sitting. It was that gripping.
Ranger Jim Blawcyzk finds himself in a world of hurt when he wakes up naked, covered in blood next to a saloon girl who is likewise naked. Except she has Jim's Bowie knife buried to the hilt in her chest and is the source of the blood. Blawcyzk starts out to prove his innocence, but that's hard from the inside of a jail cell, miles from other Rangers.
Griffin's novels keep getting better and better. His plotting, pacing and ideas get sharper, and more distinct each time out. He writes in a style reminiscent of pulp westerns, yet isn't slavish to it. It is recognizable as such, yet he has found his own voice and uses it well.
This latest novel in the Ranger Blawcyzk series is a page-turner and worth a read.
