Editorial Reviews

Layne Gneiting, Ph.D.
This story hits hardest by exposing bullying’s ripple effects—a constant wave throwing lives into turmoil and threatening to suck them under. On many levels it is a tale of heroism, of fierce loyalty, and of navigating those dangerous straits between patience and action. We don’t merely read characters in a book; we see in those characters our own children, family, neighbors, and selves. Wood’s challenge to us is to remember that silent inaction is as serious a threat

This is the story of one mother's quest to protect her daughter from a clique of girls who bullied her. Her daughter was athletic and popular but soon became the brunt of death threats and bullying once she began to excel in her chosen sport. Teachers, coaches and even parents of the bullies couldn't or wouldn't step in to try to stop it. This is a short book and easy to read but is packed with useful information for parents dealing with the samme problem. At the end, the author gives helpful hints on dealing with bullies and how to nip it in the bud, something she didn't know how to do until she experienced this. It's a must read for parents whose children are struggling with out of control bullies.
