Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Sulock
Timid tweens will find comfort in this book about the hot topic of bullying. In this positive text, Jones works to empower readers to take an active role in stopping bullying through ten steps. She offer tips such as showing that bully victims are not alone, outlining different forms of bullying, understanding why kids bully, correctly reacting to bully behavior (in person and online), standing up against bullies, and relieving stress. Sidebars offer information about the history of bullying, how to use confident body language, and popular fiction related to this topic. Also includes are a quiz entitled "Are you at Risk of Becoming a Bully?" Readers will appreciate a short glossary and a list of suggested books and Internet sites. The text is geared towards female readers who bully emotionally, through gossiping and forming cliques, and these behaviors are what is shown through the photographs and layout. The book skims over the issue of bullying through physical fighting. The text works as a strong platform to help readers begin to overcome this issue. Part of the "10 Things You Need to Know About" series. Reviewer: Elizabeth Sulock
