Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Anthropomorphic rabbits share an idealized family Christmas in this picture book. Mother, Father, Brother and Sister trim the tree, go caroling, make presents and have a snowball fight with their cousins. The illustrations are detailed and full of color—for example, while Sister makes handmade presents she sprawls on the floor of a very feminine bedroom, complete with a bunny ballerina poster on the wall. The story is told in rhyme, four lines per page. Some of the text flows nicely within the stricture of an AABB rhyme scheme—"Christmas is coming. There's joy in the air/And bunnies are hopping about to prepare/To welcome their relatives and see everyone,/For this is the season for family and fun." Other verses require a bit more of a stretch. A parent who plans to read this aloud should give it a practice run first. The author and illustrator have used the bunny characters before in several other books—this addition would be welcomed by children who have enjoyed the earlier volumes. 2004, HarperCollins, Ages 3 to 8.

PreS-K-Various uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents come together to prepare for and celebrate the holiday season. The first sentence on each page of the rhyming text begins with "Christmas is coming," welcoming readers into idyllic Victorian scenes of bunnies playing in the snow, making presents, and decorating cookies. The beautifully detailed, pen-and-ink watercolors convey a heartwarming atmosphere and will carry well at storytime. An appealing and comforting addition to any collection.-M. W.
