Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sue Poduska
Subtitled "A Mystery in Denali National Park," this is an adventure story set in the Alaskan national park. Although the characters and the plot are fictional, the setting and many of the details are real. The reader will learn about wolverines, sled dogs, avalanches, and survival. While their parents investigate the mysterious deaths of wolverines in the park, three children tour the park with a guide. They are lost when the guide turns out to be untrustworthy and their stepbrother's past catches up to him. After an avalanche, they are only able to survive by combining efforts. Because of their scouting background, they know to dig a snow cave to survive the night and are rescued by a search plane. In addition to the facts in the text, there is a good map and an afterword with details. The National Geographic and authors' websites are mentioned as available for more details.
