I actually started reading the Secrets & Shadows series with the second novella, Break for Me, and never got a chance to go back and read Burn for Me (although apparently I bought it and didn’t remember doing it). Having read the other two novellas and three novels in the series, it was nice to go back and read Tate’s story to find out just how he and Ali got together. While Break for Me got me hooked on the series and Ms. Walker’s writing, I have no doubt that Burn for Me would have done the same had I read it first – especially with that ending. Truth be told, I’m actually glad I didn’t get to see this version of Tate and met him after the healing had already started. However, knowing the man that Tate becomes did not make this story any less emotional for me. The chemistry between Tate and Ali is apparent and not just because the novella starts with a sex scene (one of several seriously hot sex scenes). The story is written in such a way that the author gives us a little time in both Ali and Tate’s head, so we find out rather quickly that Ali loves Tate and has for years. Because Tate has put restrictions on their relationship to keep it at the friends with benefits level, she knows she can’t tell him how she really feels or she’ll lose him. But three years is a long time to love someone and only have part of him and Ali is beginning to question whether or not her heart can take it. I liked that while it was not an easy decision to come to, when Ali finally admitted that she was never going to have all of Tate and could no longer live that way she didn’t play games and give him an ultimatum. No, she told him straight out that she couldn’t see him anymore and why and didn’t give him a chance to change her mind. It was heartbreaking to watch because Ali didn’t do it expecting that Tate would suddenly profess his love for her, she did it knowing she was ripping her and his heart out and that it would end their friendship as well. While it may not have been her intent, her breaking up with him forced Tate to reexamine his life and what he believed about his mother’s disappearance. This was the other big revelation for me as I was unaware of just how much Tate had blamed his father for his mother’s disappearance, how long their estrangement lasted, and how it affected everyone in his life that he was close to (his sisters and Ali). Witnessing the reconciliation between Tate and his father left me a blubbering mess both because it was good to see them reunite, but also because of the hard-learned and heartfelt advice his father gave him about love. Burn for Me was a great book and one I am so glad I finally got the chance to read. I really hope that Ms. Walker is planning to write more books in the Secrets & Shadows series because it’s one of my favorite romantic suspense series. I reviewed my personal copy of the book. A mystery.  A romance.  A brooding, sexy, suffering, troubled man and a woman with two kids thats tired of hiding her feelings.  Can she wait for him or will she just move on? Fantastic story!  I know this is a novella but I wish it were longer.  I want to be immersed in this little town with these people for a little while longer.  Shiloh Walker has an amazing writing style  that captivates you from beginning and doesn't let you go.  She keeps you wanting more.  I'm sure glad this is a series and I can't wait to read the next one.

In Burn for Me we meet Tate, one of the three Bell siblings.  They have a very tragic past, their mother disappeared 15 years ago, and the mystery of her disappearance is still unsolved and an open wound for all of them.   Tate Bell is the oldest of the three and has always blamed his father for his mother’s disappearance.  He is convinced his father killed his mother.  He is a tortured soul and holds his emotions back afraid he may end up hurting someone he loves, just like his father did. Ali Holmes is a single mother of two and has been in love with Tate since High School.  She knows she can help Tate, if only he would let himself feel what they have.  But, she realizes that he may never be able to do that and takes steps to distance her heart from him. Shiloh has done it again!!  Burn for Me is the first of three Novella’s about the Bell Family and the Starting of Shiloh Walkers new Secrets & Shadows Series.  I was drawn into the story almost from page one.  There is so much emotion in this story it practically jumps off the page at you.  While reading I laughed, cried, and yelled at Tate & Ali.  But most of all, I Enjoyed seeing how their relationship evolved. Burn for Me was a GREAT start to a new series.  Because it is a novella, the story line moves fast.  You get a lot of information, and a lot happens between Tate & Ali, in a short period of time.  But the impact of that much emotion in such a short time frame is intense.  I can not wait to read the next one.  This series will definitely be on my MUST READ list.

I'm a huge Shiloh Walker fan. I was super excited to see she had a new series of books from St. Martin's Press, and with Burn for Me, she set the story up well. Burn for Me is a novella length story and while it is a quick read, it is also a very satisfying read. Tate and Ali have amazing chemistry together and I loved how strong Ali had to be to let Tate know she needed things to change for her and her boys. I could feel how much Ali loved Tate and knew it wasn't easy to take a stand. Tate has always blamed his father for his mother's disappearance and in his mind death. It was hard watching Tate pretty much lose all of his family because of the mistakes from the past. I honestly just wanted to give him a hug and "Gibbs" smack him for not being open to what his family was trying to tell him and not believing in love. I have to say even with this story being a novella length, it was really awesome and gave the reader a great set up for this new series. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series now.

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog BURN FOR ME was unexpectedly just romantic.  I know, obviously there’s gotta be the connection between Ali and Tate.  And although I’m not usually a fan of the guys that think they are too damaged to be in a relationship (especially when their reasoning is a bit unsubstantial) I couldn’t help but connect with the H/h in this story. Tate and Ali have always been meant to be.  He’s had a crush on her since high school, where she ended up dating someone else and getting knocked up.  Now, loser gone and a kid left behind for Ali to raise by herself, Tate sees the opportunity to have Ali all to himself.  But only in a non-emotional arrangement.  He’s too much like his father and he believes his father killed his mother.  A mother who just disappeared one day. As always with Ms. Walker’s books, the writing conveys all the emotions of the characters, it draws you in and doesn’t let go until you’ve finished.  This is the first novella of three stories about the Bell family.  They’re introducing the town of Madison, where I’m sure there’s more than meets the eye. Shiloh Walker can write suspense like very few authors.  I can’t wait to see her dive in fully into this series.  BURN FOR ME gives us just a taste, a small dipping of toes in the murky waters of Madison, but I can already anticipate that she has much more in store for us and we’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s going in this small town. I hope that we get to see a little of the suspense that made me love the Ash Trilogy in this series, I can’t wait! *ARC provided by publisher

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 REVIEW:   Burn for Me it the first novella in Shiloh Walker’s new Secrets & Shadows series.  In Burn for Me we get to meet Tate Bell.  A man afraid to truly love or let anyone get too close. Yet knows that the one thing that matters most to him is about ready to walk away.     Ali might love Tate, but she can’t wait for him any more.   Walking away is going to be the hardest thing she has ever done.  This was an amazing start to Shiloh’s new romance suspense series.   Let me tell you chapter one starts of with a major bang.   While there is a love story the mystery that surrounds the Bell family has me dying for the next novella in this series.  If you love romance suspense you need to add Burn for Me to your read list.  Disclaimer:  I received a complimentary copy of the book from Shiloh Walker in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

¿An intense and captivating reality check.¿ My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ Single mother of two, Ali Holmes, spends her days working in her family pizzeria and her nights in the arms of her lover. For three years she had been taken whatever he had been willing to share with her, but it simply was no longer enough.  Never the same after the disappearance of his mother fifteen years ago, Tate Bell was consumed with the need to find answers. He still blames his father for the horrible fight that took place right before she left the house that last time. He simply cannot take that risk with Ali, he loves her. When Ali ends their 'arrangement', it is a harsh wake up call for Tate. The last thing he wants is to lose her. But if he wants to have any chance with her, he will have to find a way to come to terms with the demons from his past......face to face. ******* Maximum impact in a novella!!  Shiloh Walker draws us into the core of the story, right off the bat. Nothing like getting your feet wet! Without immediately surrounding her characters with a file cabinet of background, Ms. Walker is able to paint us a good impression of personality and feed us sufficient context over time, to properly place each one in the story.  Ali has been biding her time, but is finding that with her two boys, a failed marriage in her past, and her work in the family restaurant - she feels like a "dirty secret" to be kept, a mere 'convenience' to be used and put away again. She deserves more. Tate has built a lifetime of guilt and anger on the events as experienced by the teenager he once was. But those aren't the worst of his demons, the worst would be fear - fear of that which cannot be controlled. And that is what has him immobilized - until the prospect of losing love is more terrifying than fear itself. Gorgeous writing...... I just can get lost in Shiloh Walker's style, which flows just beautifully regardless of what she writes. Whether it be an action scene in one of her Blade novels or a love scene in this book... the words chosen inevitably convey just the right mood, the right emotion or attitude. She is as always a pleasure to read. ¿An intense and captivating reality check.¿ **Copy provided in return for an honest review.**
