Overview

Twenty-five-year fitness industry veteran and bestselling author Tom Venuto has become one of the world’s most respected fat-loss experts and natural bodybuilders. Venuto’s famous system, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, is now available for the first time ever in a new print edition, completely revised and updated with tons of never-before-published material.

Venuto hasn’t always been in fabulous shape. In college, they called him “Fat boy” after he added twenty pounds of belly flab from his beer, pizza, and cheese fries diet. Frustrated and angry with himself, Venuto began researching the unique methods of bodybuilders and fitness models—athletes he had admired for years because they have the lowest body fat and most-sculpted bodies in the world. He made himself a human guinea pig, putting these fat-burning and muscle-building methods to work and winning more than two dozen trophies in drug-free bodybuilding competitions. When crowds of people showed up at his gym door asking how he did it, he began sharing his methods with hundreds of one-on-one training clients. He went on to coach thousands of men and women online through his fitness websites. When Venuto self-published his fat-burning system as an ebook, ultimately he was able to help more than 300,000 people in 154 countries transform their bodies with the same “physique athlete” methods he had tested and proven on himself and his personal clients for over two decades.

Now available in print for the first time, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle teaches you the four elements of body transformation in his L.E.A.N. formula, including a fat-burning food plan that can be customized for your body type, a 28-day training plan for sculpting lean muscle, and the motivation strategies it takes to stick with your plan. The program is not about getting as ripped as a fitness model or becoming a bodybuilder like Tom did (unless you want to), it’s about using their secrets to achieve your own personal goals. Whether you want to burn 10 pounds or 100 pounds, whether you want to build muscle or look “toned,” Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is the bible for fat loss. It’s the one must-have reference guide that will show you how to get permanent results the healthy, safe, and natural way, and you are sure to refer back to it for many years to come.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
10/07/2013
Originally published as an e-book and billed as the “Bible of Fat Loss,” this revised and updated print edition is geared towards helping readers achieve healthy weight loss by linking nutrition and exercise. It’s not a new concept and neither are the majority of Venuto’s suggestions. Eschewing fad diets, Venuto, a health and fitness writer and bodybuilder, encourages readers to get to know their body and adjust their approach to fitness accordingly. Helpful tips like calculating muscle loss or gain, establishing caloric needs, and spreadsheets for meal plans will assist readers in structuring their approach. But all too often the author’s advice does little more than state the obvious, noting the necessity of setting specific goals, creating a calorie deficit, drinking plenty of water, and combining cardio with strength training. Readers certainly won’t harm themselves, but those already committed to a healthy lifestyle will likely find this book to be more reminder than new Bible. That said, couch potatoes in need of structure and inspiration will find Venuto to be an informed and informative trainer. Agents: Yfat Reiss Gendell and Stephan Barbara, Foundry Literary + Media. —Michael Roussell, PhD

“Not only does Tom include every fact about fat loss worth including, he offers vital, practical, and time-tested systems to implement them. This is a great resource for anyone who’s serious about getting lean, fit, and muscular, while eating a healthy diet and having time left over to enjoy life. It's the new industry standard for fitness books.”
—Lou Schuler, author of The New Rules of Lifting series

“This is the true bible of fitness.”
—Shawn Phillips, author of Strength for Life and Ab-solution

“Tom Venuto did it again. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle delivers exactly what people need to do exactly as the title says—burn fat AND build muscle. Simultaneously! And the best part is it’s practical, useful, and beneficial for everyone, from the nutrition and training to the simple yet effective behavioral strategies.”
—Chris Mohr, PhD, RD

—Mike Howard, Founder of Core Concepts Wellness

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is the go-to resource for anyone who wants to achieve low levels of body fat and get ripped. Tom goes above and beyond discussing the common elements of training and nutrition—he covers a topic most people neglect that’s vitally important: mental training. Every topic is explained thoroughly so the reader knows exactly what must be done, in simple steps, to achieve the results they desire. Bottom line—if you want to get ripped, this is the guide for you.”
—Nia Shanks, LiftLikeaGirl.com

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is the guide to transformation you’ve been looking for. Tom Venuto tackles the complexity of the human psyche in such a simplistic way it makes you question ‘Why didn’t I know this before!?’ When you combine that with his nondogmatic and scientific approach to the physical techniques of fat loss and training, you have the makings of a classic ‘must own’ book. And that is what Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is: an instant classic.”
—Leigh Peele, author of Fat Loss Troubleshoot and Starve Mode

“As a strength coach and fitness blogger Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a breath of fresh air. It’s not full of hype. Tom’s book is an honest blueprint built on a fitness philosophy that has been tested and proven to work. If you help others or personally want to build a body you can be comfortable in, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a must-have.”
—Jason Paris CSCS, FitnessDoctrine.com

“In a health and fitness world where extreme viewpoints and rigid dogma prevail, Tom Venuto’s new Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle delivers sensible, doable, and powerful fat-loss advice anyone can follow. If you are tired of the hype, confusion, and extremes in the diet and exercise world, this book will get you on the right track and teach you all you need to know about what it takes to burn the fat the right way.”
—Dr. Jade Anthony Teta, coauthor, The Metabolic Effect

“Among the overwhelming plethora of fitness, weight loss, and exercise books on the market today, there are very few that will survive the test of time. Tom Venuto’s Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle will be one of them. If you’re looking for the latest trend or quick fix, you won’t find it in this book. What you will find is concrete information on what really works: strength training to build muscle. Build muscle to burn fat … what a concept!”
—Tom Terwilliger, Mr. America, author of, The 7 Rules of Achievement

    This book changed my life.

Hyperbole? You decide. I wish I could show you my before and after pictures. Actually, I can. They are published on the back slip-cover of the hardback version! I burned off 122 lbs of fat while keeping my existing muscle. But what is truly most important is that the same principles in “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” that guided me in burning the fat, have helped me keep it off 4 years and counting. I cannot emphasize enough that this book is not simply a “diet” book, rather it is a “lifestyle” guide. In fact, by maintaining the lifestyle, I’ve continued to stay lean while building substantially more muscle. I am stronger, leaner, and more fit at age 45 yr than I have ever been.

I consider “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” as a blueprint on how to permanently make the changes necessary to achieve my fitness goals. Unlike many “diet” books that come up with a catchy hook, and then pad out the necessary pages with recipes and anecdotes, “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” is both a WHY and a HOW TO book. This means that you will get the most out of it only if your objective is to learn how to permanently get in shape. If you want a “secret formula” or “magic pill”, then keep looking. If you are ready to start making the step by step changes that will bring you ever closer to your desired physique, then this is a must read.

Like most people, I had tried many, many diets and plans over the years. I would often lose weight for awhile, only to regain as much or more later. Almost any plan can deliver results in the short term. But if the “plan” is not sustainable, then the results will not be sustainable either. “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” teaches the fundamentals of fat loss. Expend more energy than you consume, and with time you will burn off unwanted fat. This absolute truth leads to the time tested advice to become more active while controlling how much we eat. Tom Venuto successfully communicates that while this idea is simple, it is not easy. He explains that simple means uncomplicated, while easy suggests a lack of require effort. If you are looking for Easy, then keep looking. But if getting fit is important enough that you are willing to devote the necessary effort, then
“Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” is exactly what you need.
