Overview

Burning Daylight (A Love Story)
"Burning Daylight" was Jack London's bestselling book during his lifetime! A GREAT READ!

The book begins as a two-fisted macho adventure on the Klondike, as the hero --nicknamed Burning Daylight -- becomes the most successful entrepreneur during the Alaskan Gold Rush. However, after acheiving his fame and fortune, he finds no more challenge in the north and heads to the States for new worlds to conquer. But, first he is flim-flammed out of his fortune by Wall Streeters. However, he learns the lesson of dog-eat-dog and becomes as much of a scoundrel as those who robbed him. He ventures to California and envisons the future success of Oakland, buys property, sets up utilities and public transportation systems through overbearing and shady tactics. He begins to drink, starts to go soft in the belly, loses his good looks and vitality. And then, for the first time, he falls in love. The last third of the book charmingly relates how a good woman turns a now bad man around. It is a love story. A rousing adventure. A trieste on the ills of big business. All superbly written by Jack London. It's easy to see why this book was so popular in London's day. If you like great novels…. read it. It will be time well spent.

    Great Read!

I have long been a fan of Jack London. I started with Call of the Wild and have read many of his books. However, I believe that this novel is the penacle of his writing career. It spiraling downfall of a man caught in the grip of the gold rush and his subsequent salvation by a young woman who reminds him that money isn't everything. It is a gripping story. I couldn't put the book down.

The dark thickly striped tabby tom who forcemated Sunstar

His spirit lingered in the cave. His chilly laugh would echo off the walls when she slept. Whenever she came in to rest, his spirit would forcemate her again, harder every time and all the while he continued at the nick in his ear. She would never escape him. He would forcemate so hard until death. He laughed as she entered, tormenting her. She would never escape.....
