I admit, I don't like Elminster. He's arrogant, kills far to quickly, and most writers don't even pretend to make him bound by the laws of magic. Just having him do whatever he wants, casting spells that shouldn't work in the game according to it's rules. That being said, I admit, that compared to many of the Forgotten Realms books being put out recently after they screwed that world up, this isn't to bad. Not a must read by any measure, but a good read if you got nothing else to do. Though I admit freely, I rooted for the bad guys on more then one occasion. I would love to read about Elminster dying. Still, read it, decide for yourself.

Ed Greenwood's "bury Elminster Deep" is highly recommended. This book is riveting as any of the past novels by Mr. Greenwood's Tales of El and those who Harp!
