Overview

"From Washington to Kennebunkport to Texas to old Europe and new Europe, during the past two decades Maureen Dowd has trained her binoculars on the Bush dynasty, putting them, as both 41 and 43 have complained to her, "on the couch." Here she wittily dissects the Oedipal loop-de-loop between father and son and the Orwellian logic of the rush to war in Iraq. It's a turbulent odyssey charting how a Shakespearean cast of regents, courtiers, and neo-con Cabalists-all with their own subterranean agendas-hijack King George II's war on terror and upend

It's a turbulent odyssey charting how a Shakespearean cast of regents, courtiers, and neo-con Cabalists-all with their own subterranean agendas-hijack King George II's war on terror and upend the senior Bush's cherished internationalist foreign policy and Persian Gulf coalition.

As she's written about Bushworld, "It's their reality. We just live and die in it.'"

For thirty years, Maureen Dowd has written about Washington-and America-in a voice that is acerbic, passionate, outraged, and incisive. But nothing has engaged her as powerfully as the extraordinary agendas, absurdities, and obsessions of George the Younger. Drawing upon her celebrated columns, with a new introductory essay, she probes the topsy-turvy alternative universe of a group she has made recognizable by their first names, middle initials, nicknames, or numbers-41, the Boy Emperor, Rummy, Condi, Wolfie, Uncle Dick of the Underworld, General Karl, Prince of Darkness (Richard Perle), and her own nickname from W., the Cobra-as they seek an extreme makeover of the country and the world. Bushworld is a book that any reader who cares about the real world won't want to miss."

    Worth the Risk

Bushworld is a place every voter should enter. Dowd provides an insight into the world the Bushes occupy that is funny, sad but mostly scary. The contrast between 41 and 43 is so great the reader is left wondering if they can ever connect. This story will leave you laughing or possibly crying for the world....ours.

    Same old baseless accusations

Although this book is quite new, it offers nothing new. Had the author simply stated that she disagrees with the Bush Administration's policies and why, it might have been a good read. Instead, she goes off on a tangent considering herself and her visions to be elite as compared to those on the right. Furthermore, it's the same old fears of another four years that America has heard over and over again from those on the left. Spend your money on something else.

    A good read.

A brilliant summary of the neverending absurdities coming out of the Bush Whitehouse. It is tragic that so much of the media has given this President a 'freeride' in return for previously unimaginable giveaways to the few megacorporations that process this country's news. This is a long overdue book, and those reviewers who 'canned' it on your website probably never even read it

Brilliant, funny, vital, and ahead of the curve

If you remember that Ms. Dowd won the Pulitzer Prize for skewering Bill Clinton (at least in part) in a series of hilarious and biting columns, and that she writes equally satiric pieces on Sen. Kerry (among other politicos) - then you might appreciate what a public service she performs as a journalist by holding those is power and the pretenders to the throne to account. This collection of columns lays bare the many fault lines of the Bush administration, but just as much demonstrates that Dowd is not cowed like an increasing number of journalists who are flat out afraid of losing their jobs, afraid of Bush, or are themselves too partisan to pretend to be fair. Unlike other so-called pundits or opinion-makers, Dowd is very funny and insightful...and a vital voice in national politics. Read Bushworld - even if you don't buy it...

    Beware of right-wing propagandist reviews!

The two reviews I have read are filled with the same mindless rhetoric the right wing likes to mouth like the nice little mainstream robots they have become. Ms. Dowd's work in the NY Times and in this book is an important contribution to our national debate about what type of nation we want. It is far easier to echo the right wing garbage about the elite liberal media than to think for yourself. Ms. Dowd is an Americam treasure and this book will help you to see through the right wing propaganda machine.

    A nice heaping of reality

Maureen Dowd has the courage, intelligence and wit to take on the worst administration in our country's history, and their supporters (see above reviews.) Her words are a great act of patriotism.

    Extremist

We need more books like this. We need to expose both sides of the political war. Some talk about how Democrats are too liberal; well republicans are too conservative. We need to have our country's government placed in the hands of someone who's a solid combination of both. If we are too liberal things will become caotic. If we are too conservative we will never evolve into a more productive and respected country. I just wanted to say this in response to the earlier remarks on this book. We need to drop these bigoted views of the right and left sides of the government and learn to find a happy medium. Republicans aren't all right. But liberals aren't either. Neither way is the best, and I think you need to open your minds to that.
