Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A pair of board books by Cece Bell boasts celebrated twosomes: Food Friends: Fun Foods That Go Together and Busy Buddies: Silly Stuff That Goes Together. In the first, Cake-a slice of strawberry frosted, gripping balloons-hosts a surprise party, at which "cookies and milk" (one of the chocolate chip variety takes a dip in the ambulatory glass) and "bacon and eggs" (a Fred Astaire-looking slab, flanked by two yokes sporting their whites like tutus), among others, await the arrival of Cake's mate, ice cream. In the other, Brush searches for her partner, passing "needle and thread" and "hammer and nail" before finding her Comb. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Some things just naturally go together, and that is the conceit on this book. Brush is distraught because she is alone, but all the other buddies are together: Needle and thread are flying a kite; pencil and paper are working on a drawing and a game of baseball; soap and water are just floating along. At long last comb appears on the scene and all the buddies are finally together in one grand reprise. Interesting, and a chance for parents and caregivers to play a game asking and presenting more of these comparisons. 2006, Candlewick, Ages 2 to 5.

Meet the Author

CECE BELL is the author-illustrator of SOCK MONKEY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD and SOCK MONKEY BOOGIE-WOOGIE. Of BUSY BUDDIES and FOOD FRIENDS, she says, "When I was a kid I loved foods that ‘went together.' I couldn't have my spaghetti without meatballs, or my peanut butter without jelly. And as an adult, I still feel the same way!"
